Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift Stepped Out in Two Different Takes on the Corset Dress

Close friends Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez first met in 2008, when they were each linked to a Jonas brother (Joe in Taylor’s case, Nick in Selena’s). Since then, they have been one another’s biggest cheerleaders. At this week’s MTV VMAs, Twitter was awash with videos of both stars applauding each other during their acceptance speeches, as Taylor and Selena both picked up awards on the night. After the ceremony they hit the after-party, in two different takes on after-dark dressing.

For the late-night soirée at the NoMad following the awards ceremony, Taylor donned a denim minidress by EB Denim featuring a corset bustier and a patchwork pleated skirt (fans are convinced she’s wearing a lot of blue right now for a specific reason). Her ensemble was accentuated by gold jewellery, a silver crystal-encrusted mini bag and silver peep-toe sandals. Selena also wore a corset minidress, although hers was a little less girlish, a little more bombshell. She accessorised her jewel-tone purple satin dress with a black leather shoulder bag adorned with silver tassels and black court pumps featuring ankle straps.

Despite the contrasting colours and fabrics, the friends’ dresses were alike in their cinching silhouettes. Are you even best friends if your party dresses aren’t coordinated?

Barbie, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift Are Winning the Attention Sweepstakes for Brands This Summer

Barbie, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift Are Winning the Attention Sweepstakes for Brands This Summer

SPARKLE SWEEPSTAKES: Fashion brands seem to be getting slightly more bang for their buck from dressing Beyoncé for her “Renaissance” world tour than Taylor Swift for her “Eras” concerts.
For example, Alexander McQueen won $7.7 million in media impact value, and Tiffany & Co. $7.2 million, for placing designs on Beyoncé, compared to Versace garnering $6.3 million after dressing Swift, data from Launchmetrics show.

The data firm’s tallies show that “Eras” has so far generated $97.5 million in media impact value, or MIV, and “Renaissance” $187 million. The proprietary MIV figure calculates the impact of relevant media placements on all channels (online, social and print), inclusive of paid, owned and earned mediums.

By comparison, Balmain garnered $5.6 million and Valentino $3.7 million in MIV for dressing Beyoncé.

The two tours, playing to sold-out arenas and triggering viral moments on social media, represent “the perfect stage for brands to capture the gaze of millions, generating unparalleled exposure and reinforcing their image in the hearts of both dedicated fans and the broader public,” Launchmetrics said.

But a certain doll with a penchant for pink seems to have trumped the music superstars.

Zara’s decision to partner with Mattel on a capsule collection inspired by the looks of the hit “Barbie” movie won the fast-fashion retailer $11 million in MIV, according to Launchmetrics.

Brands that also won the attention sweepstakes with Barbie collaborations include Nyx, whose makeup collaboration garnered $8.5 million in MIV, and Boohoo, scoring $3.7 million for its co-branded collection of 38 styles.

Crocs also generated $3.7 million in MIV with its Barbie-themed collection of shoes and charms, while shoe chain Aldo scored $2.7 million with its range of footwear, bags and jewelry.

The Barbie x Gap collection, spanning apparel, accessories, kidswear and even pets clothes, generated $1.8 million in MIV.

In a separate research study, Launchmetrics analyzed TikTok data, which shows beauty brands growing 53 percent faster than fashion in the first five months of 2023 versus the same January-to-May period last year.

Louis Vuitton, Chanel, L’Oréal and Fenty Beauty were among new entries in its top 10 ranking of fashion, luxury and lifestyle brands on TikTok. Sephora bumped Shein from the top spot and Fashion Nova, Balenciaga, Adidas and Walmart dropped off the list.

Launchmetrics noted that the “share of voice” garnered by TikTok influencers dropped 8 percent, with branded content logging the most growth at 4.5 percent.

Beauty brands grew at a monthly rate of 15 to 16 percent across prestige and mass-market segments.

By contrast, luxury fashion and premium fashion brands outpaced mass-market players, logging growth of 11 percent, 12 percent and 7 percent respectively.

Taylor Swift Continues to Show Love for Arab Designers in This Zuhair Murad Bodysuit

Taylor Swift has once again championed an Arab designer on her highly successful Eras Tour. One of her concerts at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium saw the American popstar adorned in a custom-made midnight blue bodysuit by Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad.
On Instagram, the couturier posted a video of the evening with Swift looking stunning in the couture creation. “Taylor Swift wore for The Eras Tour in Los Angeles a custom #ZMCouture midnight blue bodysuit adorned with shimmering crystal embellishments, cascading intricate beaded fringes, and accompanied by a coordinating garter,” read the caption.

This is not the first time that a design from Zuhair Murad has been spotted in Swift’s tour wardrobe. Earlier in March, for the second night of her sold-out concert in Glendale, Arizona the 33-year-old opted for a romantic ball gown from the designer featuring sequins in a starburst pattern. Mere days later in Las Vegas, Swift was seen in another bejeweled number from Zuhair Murad, a  shimmering with embellishment and fringe detailing.
Throughout the Eras tour, Swift has supported Arab designers on several occasions. From Elie Saab to Azzi & Osta and Yousef Al-Jasmi, regional talent found itself being celebrated across her concerts in North America. More recently, the Grammy award-winning artist wore a lilac tulle gown from Reem Acra reminiscent of the original cover of Speak Now for the Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) cover shoot.

We all certainly remember Taylor Swift ‘standing in a nice dress’ with the slew of Arab designers she championed throughout the Eras tour. Now, this exquisite sartorial dream (which has featured the likes of Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad, and Yousaf Akbar) can celebrate the addition of one more globally-loved name from the region: Reem Acra.
Photo: Instagram.com/reemacra
Earlier this week, the Lebanese couturier took to Instagram to share images of the American pop star in a dreamy lilac number from her label. The tulle gown was chosen for the cover of her latest album, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version). Having debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, the album has earned Swift the honor of being the first woman, and third artist across genders, to have four albums chart simultaneously in the Top 10. The designer thanked the record-breaking artist in the post, “Our dress as featured on ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).’ Thank you, Taylor Swift.”

The dress is likely one of Swift’s signature easter eggs. As avid fans of the 33-year-old artist will remember, it was a Reem Acra dress that she wore for the original Speak Now shoot more than a decade ago. The now iconic purple dress is arguably one of Swift’s most recognizable looks, and was also part of Reem Acra’s spring 2007 collection. “I was thrilled, to say the least,” Acra told Page Six. “It is a big honor to see her in my creation 13 years later.”

Taylor Swift Stuns in Another Custom Zuhair Murad Look for The Eras Tour

Taylor Swift Stuns in Another Custom Zuhair Murad Look for The Eras Tour

There is no arguing against the sartorial excellence of Zuhair Murad which is why it comes as no surprise that mere days into her Eras Tour, Taylor Swift has opted for another look by the Lebanese designer – a bejeweled number perfectly encapsulating the energy of Las Vegas.
Photo: Instagram.com/zuhairmuradofficial
On the opening night of another sold-out stop across America, the Grammy award-winning artist had the audience mesmerized with her performances. Of course, it helped that she looked stunning in her bespoke midnight blue Zuhair Murad bodysuit. Delicately crafted by hand, the outfit is a testament to the savoir-faire of the Lebanese couturier with 20,000 sequins and crystals embedded individually. The embellishment seems to overflow with richly beaded fringes and a matching garter. Her look was completed by a pair of knee-high boots and the quintessential Taylor Swift red lip with winged eyeliner.
The label shared a video on Instagram showing glimpses of how the sparkling number was created, adding that it was “crafted in over 350 hours of atelier handwork.”

From custom Louboutins in every show to her first look from Zuhair Murad – a romantic embellished ball gown – and every other ensemble that has appeared on stage, it is apparent that fashion plays an important role in this tour. For the 33-year-old singer who tends to be meticulously detail-oriented about everything from her shows to her music videos, this has been a chance to use as a conduit for expression, a means to highlight different eras of her music and the unparalleled growth she has been through.

Best believe Taylor Swift was bejeweled head-to-toe to kick off her long-awaited The Eras Tour—in a Zuhair Murad gown, no less.

For Night 2 of her sold-out concert in Glendale, Arizona, the Grammy Award-winning singer opted for a custom creation by the Lebanese designer: A romantic ball gown perfect for singing “Enchanted” in. The blush pink dress appeared to be straight out of a fairytale (or in this case, “Love Story”) with all-over embellishments in Murad’s signature sequins in a starburst pattern, while the back featured a cross strap detail. Styled by Joseph Cassell Falconer, Swift paired the dress with minimal jewelry and her unmistakable red lip and winged eyeliner.

The rest of Swift‘s fashion-filled wardrobe for the tour includes equally noteworthy pieces that nod to her past musical eras. The gold, fringed Roberto Cavalli dress, in particular, is an updated version of another Cavalli number Swift wore during her Fearless tour in 2011. “We chose a beautiful champagne color, which is very Taylor,” Fausto Puglisi tells Vogue. The Roberto Cavalli designer has also created a black and red catsuit with snakes embroidered on it as a reference to her bold and daring Reputation era. “It’s more of a badass, rock and roll look,” he says.
So far, Swift has mirrored the pastel-hued aesthetic from her Lover album in a dazzling Versace bodysuit, performed Midnight’s “Lavender Haze” in an Oscar de la Renta faux fur lavender coat, and paid homage to Folklore in breezy prairie gowns by Alberta Ferretti and Etro.

10 Times International Celebrities Walked the Red Carpet in Arab Designers in 2021

10 Times International Celebrities Walked the Red Carpet in Arab Designers in 2021

Over the years, we’ve witnessed many Arab designers become the go-to for international celebrities, especially when it comes to red carpet events. Celebrities such as the Queen herself—Beyoncé—has built such a reputation with Arab designers, be it while attending formal ceremonies, or while lounging on vacation with husband Jay-Z. Jennifer Lopez is also among the stars who have shown their appreciation for the artistry of Arab designers time after time, and has been seen dressed in Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad often.

In 2021, we saw even more Arab designers emerging on the global platform, and being spotted on a wide range of  A-List celebrities. Among the many stars who favored talent from the region was American singer Cardi B, who donned a beautiful purple velvet dress with feather detailing and crystal embellishment from Jean- Louis Sabaji Fall 2021 couture for the 2021 American Music Awards.

And that’s not where the list ends. What better way to show up at a friend’s wedding than in a gorgeous neon blue silk chiffon couture number from Rami Kadi? That’s exactly what singer Bebe Rexha did for Paris Hilton’s big day, and in addition to that,  Grammy winner Taylor Swift looked incredible on The Tonight Show in a Zuhair Murad Resort 2022 RTW look: an ivory mod-style dress with gold bead trim. Just like Swift, model Jasmine Tookes was also seen in a Zuhair Murad creation this year. Her pick: a baby blue one-shoulder chiffon gown with floral appliqué.

Christina Aguilera was also seen wearing a look from an Arab designer this year, dazzling in a red couture dress from Yousef al Jasmi, and one of J.Lo’s biggest fashion moments of the year had to be when she stepped out in Los Angeles alongside Ben Affleck, wearing a pastel mousseline draped gown with a matching velvet bow belt from the Elie Saab Haute Couture Fall winter 2021/2022 collection. The 52-year-old icon also took over trending charts when she appeared at the Venice Film Festival in a sculpted ivory dress with cheeky ruffles and a Swarovski-studded neckline from Georges Hobeika. Likewise, Lady Gaga spotlighted her love for Hobeika in custom-made dress at the ‘One Last Time’ concert at Radio City Music Hall.

In what is shaping up to be a successful week for Taylor Swift, the Grammy-winner recently gave a nod to Arab designers. Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote Red, a re-recording of her 2012 album, Swift opted for a look created by Zuhair Murad.

The 31-year-old singer chose an ivory mini-dress with a high neck, short sleeves, and oversized pockets from the Lebanese couturier’s Resort 2022 collection. The retro number, in keeping with Swift’s personal style, featured gold beaded trims on the neckline and sleeves, which the singer matched with the Christian Louboutin So Kate pumps and hoops in the same color. The ‘Shake it Off’ singer complemented her ensemble with a textured ponytail with bangs framing her face and her signature fail-proof red lip and eyeliner.
This is not the first time the star has been spotted in a Zuhair Murad creation, as the duo’s partnership can be traced back to nearly 10 years ago. On many occasions, particularly, award shows, the singer has walked the red carpet in the Beirut and Paris-based designer’s dazzling pieces. Who can forget the stunning gold dress she wore to the Grammys in 2012 when she took home three awards?
Below, take a look at all the times Swift was spotted wearing Zuhair Murad.

Swift is currently re-recording her albums after losing the masters to music manager Scooter Braun who acquired her previous label Big Machine Records. Earlier this year, the singer re-released another one of her albums, Fearless.

Taylor Swift Joins TikTok—and Her Dress Instantly Sells Out

Swifties, get those phones out: Taylor Swift officially joined TikTok on Monday. The singer’s first-ever post on the app sees her lip-synching to Dave’s “Screwface Capital” while re-creating iconic fashion looks from some of her nine album releases. For her 2020 album Folklore, for instance, she sports a white, off-the-shoulder dress that totally fits into the cottagecore theme. For 2012’s Red? She wears a sleek black turtleneck and, yes, a bold red lip. But it’s her sunny yellow floral dress from Reformation, the “Joyce” dress, that harkens back to her 2008 Fearless days that currently has the Internet abuzz—in fact, it instantly sold out after she wore it.

@taylorswift
Lots going on at the moment: Red (my version) vinyl is up for presale on my site and oh I’m on tiktok now let the games begin 😺 #SwiftTok
♬ original sound – Taylor Swift

Soon after Swift wore the dress, which retails for US $218, it swiftly sold out in all sizes—so good luck getting your hands on it. The good news, however, is that it’s still available in other colorways, such as a solid off-white or in a cherry print. This isn’t the first time a fashion or beauty item has gone viral on TikTok, but with a megawatt star like Swift wearing it on top of that, the summery dress may just become the most hard-to-get item of the season. Maybe you’ll be able to score it once fall arrives—then you can pair it with a Swift-style cardigan.
