Egyptian designer Malak Nahas has launched Melkyana, a new swimwear brand that hopes to empower and celebrate Arab women in all of their diversity. The name of the Dubai-based label stems from the Arabic words for ‘mine’ or ‘my own’, representing the philosophy that women around the region should embrace their individuality and unique narrative. 
The debut collection from Melkyana represents a central ethos for the brand, the sustainable and functional idea that swimwear can be turned into summerwear. The one-piece swimsuits, including the hybrid backless and hybrid corset, can also be styled as body suits for an evening look. The rope bikini offers versatility, allowing for the ropes to be removed or replaced with a gold chain or diamond necklace., and the cut-out triangle top provides a casual and layered look when worn under a loose white tank top. Each piece from the thoughtful line allows women to seamlessly transition from the beach to a night out in the city, and everywhere else in between.

With this launch, Nahas hopes to highlight the versatility of Arab women, one hybrid piece at a time. This is a collection for women that embody the complex duality of modernity… the ones that regularly walk the line between their rich cultural heritage and their contemporary lifestyle. In another ode to the region, each piece is characterized by a color palette representative of the Middle East. Stretch satin and mesh fabrics dominated by black, green, and brown hues merge into each other in an interplay of sensuality and playfulness, ideal for the summers in the Middle East.
