Kate Middleton’s Daring Red Pantsuit Marks the Start of a New Style Era

Kate Middleton’s Daring Red Pantsuit Marks the Start of a New Style Era

Kate Middleton struck a bold new tone with the crimson pantsuit she wore on January 29. While sticking to the monochromatic style she’s been known to favor—pairing the structured blazer and wide-leg trousers with pumps, a box clutch, and a silk shell in the same cherry red hue—Kate got a little daring with the plunging V of her neckline. She topped off the look with a pair of large, dangly earrings with an Art Deco edge.
As Kate was at an event to promote her own initiative, it is her right to cause all this conversation.

The Princess of Wales, along with Prince William, attended the event at London’s BAFTA ahead of the launch of Shaping Us, Kate’s new campaign with the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood to promote early childhood development. Now officially underway, Shaping Us even has its own dedicated Instagram, where Kate has posted her own personal video message about the initiative.

“Our early childhood, the time from pregnancy to the age of five, fundamentally shapes the rest of our lives,” the Princess of Wales says in the clip. “But as a society, we currently spend much more of our time and energy on later life.” The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood has launched Shaping Us, Kate explains, “to raise awareness of the life-changing impact we can have when we build a supportive, nurturing world around children and those who care for them.”
For its first act, Shaping Us released a claymation video PSA highlighting the importance of those first five years, which will air in movie theaters all over the UK. Early childhood development has been a focus of Kate Middleton’s charity work since at least 2018, when she hosted a symposium on early childhood at the Royal Society of Medicine, per the foundation’s website.
And nothing says “I’m about to change the world” quite like a bold new pantsuit.

On a gray October day, Kate Middleton Princess of Wales visited the Royal Surrey County Hospital’s maternity unit to meet with staff and hear about the holistic support it provides for pregnant women and new mothers. To contrast the overcast skies, Kate wore a simple sunshine-yellow midi dress by Karen Millen, featuring a pleated skirt, a notched neckline and puffed sleeves. As ever, she kept her accessories minimal, and wore navy heeled pumps and carried a matching suede clutch bag. She also wore white gold and diamond drop earrings by Emily Mortimer Jewellery.

The Princess will spend time at several areas of the hospital throughout the day. Upon arrival, she met with the unit’s Jasmine team, which is dedicated to helping mothers who experience mental health issues during and after pregnancy.
The hospital’s postnatal unit and special care baby unit are also on her schedule, and during Kate’s visit, she will speak to mothers and families who have received support from the Royal Surrey County Hospital staff. Kate will no doubt be a cheering presence during each encounter.

Kate Middleton Just Channeled This Bridgerton Star With Her Mint Green Dress at a Royal Garden Party

Kate Middleton and Prince William stepped in for Queen Elizabeth II at a recent garden party at Buckingham Palace, and her ensemble reminds us of another young aristocratic Brit: Eloise Bridgerton. On May 25, the Duchess of Cambridge rewore a custom dress made by her private dressmaker, featuring buttons, a high neck, and long sleeves that would work perfectly in Regency-era London. The Duchess accessorized the garment, which she previously wore in March 2019, with a floral fascinator, plain heels, a clutch purse, and matching earrings, all in mint green.
This isn’t the first time Middleton has worn a preloved item to a garden party this month. In keeping with her dedication to sustainable fashion, she recently stepped out in a coral dress accessorized with a vintage clutch on May 19.

While Kate Middleton is certainly not seeking a suitor—she has been married to Prince William since 2011—you cannot say that she does not look ready to promenade in this look.
All this to say, the pale pastel looks great on brunette Middleton, which might be why the shade is also a favorite of the most sarcastic Bridgerton daughter. To compare, here is Eloise in mint green at a garden party in season two of the Netflix series.

Kate Middleton and Prince William have touched down at the U.K. premiere of Top Gun: Maverick.
On May 19, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a screening of the Top Gun sequel starring Tom Cruise at Leicester Square in London, England. Middleton walked the red carpet wearing a black-and-white off-shoulder gown by Roland Mouret that was perfectly complemented by her husband’s classic black tuxedo. The Duchess kept her neck bare and her loose, straight hair away from her face to showcase a par of dainty starburst diamond earrings.
While Prince William kept his look relatively simple, he snuck in one nod to the Top Gun franchise on his velvet shoes, which featured a jet plane design. Prince William previously served as a pilot in the Royal Air Force, as did his brother, Prince Harry.
The film’s star, Tom Cruise, reportedly feels he has “a lot in common” with the Duke of Sussex. “We both love England and we’re both aviators, we both love flying,” Cruise said on the red carpet, per My London.

Though the Duke and Duchess were each other’s dates to the event, it was Cruise who lent a hand to Middleton as she ascended a flight of stairs.

According to reports, this isn’t the first time Prince William and Kate Middleton have viewed the sequel to the 1986 classic film about a band of elite fighter pilots. In the 2022 sequel, Maverick (Cruise) makes his return to the Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School to shepherd a new group of airmen, including the son of his late best friend, Goose (Anthony Edwards), played by Teller. Cruise had reportedly invited the couple to an even more private screening in March after hearing Prince William was a fan of the original film.
Top Gun: Maverick hits theaters on May 24, 2022.

For the first time, Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, and Princess Anne have carried out a joint royal engagement together. The royals teamed up to visit maternity healthcare organizations in London, and naturally dressed for the occasion.
Middleton wore a look by one of her favorite brands, Self-Portrait. (Remember that pretty mint-green pleated number she packed for her royal tour of the Caribbean with William earlier this year?) This time, the Duchess opted for a single-breasted jacket in cream with lace details across the front, and a belt that cinched at the waist. She wore a midi-length dress in the same shade underneath. A cream clutch bag, a nude pair of suede pumps, and pearl drop earrings by Annoushka completed the look.

Princess Anne, meanwhile, wore a dark turquoise green coat with a matching printed silk scarf around her neck, a black shoulder bag, and black kitten heels.
Kate and Anne have both been awarded the Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order by the Queen for services to the royal family.

10 Beautiful Ladylike Top Handle Handbags Spotted in Kate Middleton’s Wardrobe

10 Beautiful Ladylike Top Handle Handbags Spotted in Kate Middleton’s Wardrobe

The Duchess of Cambridge is the queen of condensing her personal effects into a clutch, but her collection of ladylike top handle bags has become a true hallmark of her royal style. While her grandmother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth, has been carrying patent styles from Launer London for decades, Kate has cherry-picked from myriad handbag brands that befit the wardrobe of a modern-day duchess.
Aspinal of London’s Midi Mayfair bag – which Middleton owns in both black and lilac croc – and Mulberry’s Mini Seaton share the same sleek lines and discreet gold hardware. Dolce & Gabbana’s rose Sicily model also has the curved handle and front flap reminiscent of vintage bag styles, but comes with soft, rounded corners that make it more capacious.
Two perfectly-formed Alexander McQueen bags sit at the petite end of Kate’s feminine bag collection. The black leather and raffia styles are variations on the brand’s micro Wicca satchels, and – like her bottle-green Manu Atelier model – make for chic day-to-night accessories owing to their compactness.
The Duchess’s burgundy Chanel bag is the highlight in her edit of timeless handbags, none of which are defined by the season they were created or the designer who conceptualised them. As Coco Chanel herself once said, “Fashion passes, style remains,” and Kate’s polished bags are emblematic of quality fashion that holds its value. Testament to this is the frequency with which the Duchess wears her accessories (the Aspinal of London and Chanel styles are rotated most often).
As always, there is a democratic undertone to Kate’s wardrobe. Her Dolce & Gabbana and McQueen bags might cost upwards of £1,000, but the Manu Atelier and Aspinal of London styles retail at less than £400. More recently, the Duchess has incorporated vintage accessories into her wardrobe – sporting a 1960s Wayne Taylor bag in orange for an overseas visit to Jamaica.
The price of an investment bag of course varies for everyone, but, as always, Kate is conscious that her public-facing fashion should incorporate an element of accessibility. The difference between her once beloved LK Bennett Sledge pumps and her current roster of Zara knitwear is that Kate’s handbags come with the responsible message long touted by another designer, Dame Vivienne Westwood: “Buy less, choose well and make it last.”

It seems a lot of thought has gone into the accessories that went into the Duchess’s suitcases ahead of her and Prince William’s high-profile tour. Kate previously touched down in Belize wearing a blue lace skirt suit (also Jenny Packham) with a pair of sapphire drop earrings and a necklace refashioned from Princess Diana’s sapphire suite, a gift to Diana from Saudi Arabia’s royal family on the occasion of her 1981 wedding.
Last night’s jewelry choice – earrings and a bracelet from the Queen’s emerald tassel parure – served as a sweet nod to Her Majesty, who celebrates her Platinum Jubilee this year (and makes her debut on the cover of British Vogue in the April issue). Kate’s frequent appearances in the crown jewels over the years are a sign of the Queen’s affection for her grandson’s wife. In April last year, the Duchess memorably wore a four-strand pearl choker on loan from Her Majesty to the funeral of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

During her first ever royal tour in 2011, the Duchess of Cambridge famously made headlines when she had a Marilyn Monroe moment while arriving in Calgary, Canada in a yellow Jenny Packham tea dress. Now, more than a decade later, the royal has recreated that look while arriving in Jamaica in sunshine yellow.

On landing in Kingston, Kate Middleton stepped off the plane in a custom version of Roksanda’s Brigitte dress – with the bright yellow no doubt a nod to the Jamaican flag. She finished off the look with white Aquazzura pumps, a matching clutch from Salvatore Ferragamo, and mother-of-pearl earrings by Sézane.

Yellow has been a popular choice for Kate Middleton on overseas visits, with the royal previously arriving in Sydney in 2014 in another eye-catching yellow dress by Roksanda. So far, the royal has also been spotted in a bright red Yves Saint Laurent jacket (which she reportedly bought while still a student at St Andrews), worn on her flight from Belize to Jamaica, and a sparkling off-shoulder green Jenny Packham gown with ruffles, which she picked for a reception at the Governor-General’s house in Kingston, Jamaica.
With the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge heading off to The Bahamas later on in the week, expect another memorable off-the-plane moment then.

With the easing of coronavirus travel restrictions coinciding with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year, this spring will see a number of Royal Family members representing the monarch on commemorative visits across the Commonwealth. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge kicked off their own trip in this capacity at the weekend, swapping the UK for the Caribbean, where they’ll be visiting Belize, Jamaica and The Bahamas from March 19 to 26.

Last night saw the royal couple attend a special reception hosted by the Governor General of Belize, at the historic Mayan ruins at Cahal Pech. Kate Middleton pulled out all the stops for the occasion, shimmering in an ethereal metallic pink gown by one of her go-to designers, The Vampire’s Wife, teamed with Jimmy Choos and a Mayan embroidered clutch bag. Prince William, meanwhile, looked dapper in a dark blue jacket and pale shirt. He delivered a speech at the event, saying, “Catherine and I are delighted to be here with you tonight in Belize at the beginning of our first official visit to the Caribbean,” and that he was “honored to convey the very warmest wishes from my grandmother, The Queen of Belize, on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee.”

As the tour first got underway in Belize at the weekend, Middleton dressed for the occasion – and the climate – in two summery blue ensembles, nodding to the country’s flag, which features a coat of arms against a deep blue background. On arrival in the country, the Duchess disembarked from the plane in an elegant lace suit by one of her favorite designers, Jenny Packham. She accessorized the look with matching sapphire earrings and a necklace, reworked from a set that once belonged to her late mother-in-law, Diana, Princess of Wales.

The royal couple were out and about on Sunday for a visit to a cocoa plantation farm in southern Belize, the Che’il Mayan Chocolate Factory, where they were shown by chocolate maker Julio how he and his family create their organic product. Kate opted for a vibrant blue floral midi-dress by Tory Burch for the outing, teamed with an Anya Hindmarch clutch and fun blue, dangling earrings, by French brand Sézane. On both days, Prince William complemented his wife’s ensembles by opting for a pale blue suit, followed by a blue shirt.

The Duke and Duchess made sure to have some fun on their trip, joining in with music and dancing as they spent time with the Garifuna community and learnt about their traditions in Hopkins, a village in Belize, yesterday.

Kensington Palace previously released a statement about the tour, stating: “The Royal tour begins in Belize where Their Royal Highnesses will visit historic Mayan sites and celebrate the rich culture of the Garifuna community as well as exploring the country’s biodiversity. The Duke and Duchess will then travel to Jamaica where their visit will include engaging with the Jamaican Defence Force and celebrating the seminal legacy of Bob Marley and other ground-breaking Jamaican musicians alongside some of tomorrow’s stars. The Duke and Duchess’ visit will end in The Bahamas where they will spend time with communities across a number of islands and experience a world famous junkanoo parade.”

The couple have been on a number of tours together throughout their royal careers, including to New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the US. This is the first time they’ve made an official visit to the Caribbean, however, which the Duke’s younger brother, Prince Harry, previously visited to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
