HH Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Bvlgari on Chapter Two of the Jannah Collection

In an inspiring collaboration, Bvlgari and HH Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan launch Chapter Two of the Jannah Collection. This time, an exquisite fine jewelry collection spreading a message of joy and peace. Chapter Two marks a continuation of the unprecedented collaboration between the royal and the Italian jeweler, which was two years in the making before it was revealed to the world in 2020. United by their love for beauty and family, Bvlgari’s creative director Lucia Silvestri and Her Highness met in 2018 at Abu Dhabi’s Grand Mosque. The collection was then decided to be dedicated to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Her Highness’s grandfather and the founder of the UAE.

The new collection reintroduces the five-petal Jannah flower inspired by the motifs on Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque’s marble interior, as six 18ct rose gold pieces. Although delicate and sentimental, these creations are versatile and designed to be worn in combination with everyday sets. The pendant necklace and earrings encompass the Jannah flower in a circular gold plate that comes to life through inserts of mother-of-pearl and dazzling diamond pavé. Featuring a shimmering gold and diamond tassel, the long pendant necklace is paired with matching bracelet and earrings. Another highlight in the collection is a sautoir with rotatable two-sided discs — with and without diamond pavé lines.

“It is so light and beautiful, literally heaven,” Her Highness says referring to the collection’s name. “This is Sheikh Zayed’s message through a work of art.” Silvestri adds, “The iconic Jannah flower is perfect for fine jewelry. It was something we loved at first sight; we loved the geometry. Italian and Arab culture meeting in a seamless creative balance.” Remembering the first launch of the Jannah collection, Her Highness says, “The collection touched so many people – my family; my country. I wanted to share my grandfather’s message of love and peace.”

Recently photographed for a series of portraits, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the picture of elegance, wearing Italian high jewelry brand Pasquale Bruni founded in 1968. For the UAE royal’s modeling debut, she chose the brand out of appreciation for its vision and approach to using healing stones as well as the study of the human body’s anatomy that creative director Eugenia Bruni put into the making of the pieces.
As a known advocate of meditation and positive energy, the princess shares with Bruni the nature of being kind, and spiritual. Both being strong yet sensitive women, their connection was brought about by their mutual support for female empowerment and being deeply in touch with their emotional sphere. “Enchanting heart in a charming beauty,” is how Bruni describes the experience of working with the royal. Sheikha Fatima says, “Pasquale Bruni’s jewelry doesn’t only feel like it’s sitting on your body as an external accessory, it gifts you the feeling of being part of your own, while perfectly embracing it and warming the soul.”

In the portraits, Sheikha Fatima glows in a delicate peach makeup look, which enhanced her natural beauty and complimented the pastel lilac wardrobe. Styled by fashion stylist and art director Marco Ferra, in a silky lavender Elisabetta Franchi blouse, and matching Pasquale Bruni collier, earrings, and cuff, the Sheikha and Vogue Arabia’s April 2021 cover star appeared poised and graceful in front of the camera. Makeup artist Alessandra Semisa describes the photo session as “an honor”. “Regarding the beauty look, it’s all about respecting Her Highness’ natural beauty,” shares Semisa. “Not much makeup was applied as it was not necessary.”

The new portraits not only coincide with the 50th year of the UAE’s formation, but also the year where the royal chose Vogue Arabia for her first magazine cover, and shared with editor-in-chief Manuel Arnaut her appreciation for her family of strong women, and the men who support them. The granddaughter of the founders of the UAE, HH Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the dynamic princess is a modern role model for women across the region. Dedicated to giving back to her nation, the Sheikha is the chairperson of both the Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy and the Ladies Club of Al-Ain and Abu Dhabi, and a passionate philanthropist as the engaging founder of the Fatima bint Hazza Cultural Foundation. She is also the founder of the respected Al Shira’aa Stables. As the iconic royal told Vogue Arabia for her April 2021 cover story: “I grew up with a love for the UAE and the determination that I need to give back, just like my grandfather taught me.”

Editor’s Letter: Why Strong Women are at the Center of Our April Issue Dedicated to the Importance of Family

Women – strong women – are at the center of all our editions, but this month in particular, even more so. As we enter the Holy Month, we dedicate this issue to the importance of family, and there is no question that women are the glue that holds this institution together. Wise, giving, loving, women are at the heart of it all.
This year, as the UAE celebrates its 50th anniversary, we are proud to have on our cover HH Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who poses for the first time ever for a magazine. Her Highness is the granddaughter of the founders of the country – the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak – and leads by example, heading many organizations in the fields of arts, education, sports, and philanthropy, such as the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy and the Fatima Bint Hazza Cultural Foundation, among others. She is also an accomplished horseback rider and breeder, the first female judge in the UAE for Arabian Beauty Horse shows, and the founder of Al Shira’aa Stables. I had the pleasure of visiting Her Highness at the royal stables and sitting for a chat on the topics of the UAE, the female forces taking the country forward, and her loved ones. “My grandmother HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak is my mother, my role model, my idol, and my whole world,” she shares. “She is also an infinite source of love and compassion. She is truly the Mother of the Nation, and my own mentor.”
One aspect that always amazes me about the region, is its everchanging social landscape, and the way things mutate so quickly. Traditions are still being cherished, but the social taboos of yesterday have no place in the world of tomorrow. Read, for instance, our feature on p42 in Arabic, where a brave group of female camel riders reveal their story for the first time, tapping into an activity that in the past has been mainly associated with men. The feature comes with a beautiful portfolio of images captured by our picture editor Ankita Chandra.
Also a true pioneer, but in the world of cinema, is Fatma Hassan Al Remaihi, CEO of the Doha Film Institute, who has been transforming the industry, locally and internationally. Not only is she able to capture everyone’s attention on the world’s biggest red carpets, she is also a firm supporter of local talents, placing women front and center along the way. In this issue, she reveals how she fell in love with the seventh art, and her plans for the overall direction of the institute.
Lastly, I would like to wish a happy anniversary to couturier Rami Al Ali, who celebrates 20 years of his fashion house this month. At Paris fashion week, I’m always proud to attend his perfectly put together presentation – at the Ritz Paris or Le Meurice – as I feel it represents the region in such a sophisticated and beautiful way. Not long ago, in Dubai, I had the pleasure of attending a dinner at Rami’s home, which we’ve tried to recreate on p94, surrounded by other creatives handpicked by the couturier. It was a gorgeous night, lit by candles and with the most delicious Syrian food. There, I also had the chance to meet Rami’s sisters, elegant and strong women, who seem to be among the pillars of his brand. Suffice to say that next to a great man, there are always great women. And vice versa.
