Louis Vuitton’s Latest Fragrance Will Transport You to a Starry Night in Los Angeles

Louis Vuitton’s Cologne Perfume Collection introduces its latest addition with City of Stars, an evening cologne that pays homage to Los Angeles.

The fragrance was born out of a dialogue between Louis Vuitton and artist Alex Israel. Combining contemporary art with perfumery, City of Stars recalls master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud’s Cologne Perfume Collection while adding a scent that brings together citrus quintet, Tiare flower, and sandalwood for the ultimate sensual experience. “The brilliance of citrus illuminates the night and creates a paradox between shadow and light, like a tension that’s soothed by a veil of Tiare flower, the gentle scent of monoi,” says the French perfumer. “Essence of sandalwood and the caress of powdery musk give this perfume sophistication. That magnetic combination is what lets this evening cologne bring on the night and exude sensuality — as if to say, ‘this is forever’.”

City of Stars is an ode to the nighttime, a sentiment best expressed by Israel’s painting devoted especially to this fragrance. “It’s a more extroverted eau than its predecessors,” he says. “It’s radically focused on the special, shimmering atmosphere of a night in Los Angeles when the singular setting sun gives way to the city’s lights and spotlights that traverse the sky.”
Imitating the dazzling night stars reminiscent of the City of Angels, Israel has invited the eye to travel with his original work of an idealized Los Angeles. The painting by the American artist dresses the packaging for the bottle as well as the travel case and fragrance trunk.

The 13 Best Perfume Oils That Will Ensure You Smell Amazing

The 13 Best Perfume Oils That Will Ensure You Smell Amazing

The world of women’s perfume is a big, wide one. There are so many categories to choose from, like gourmands, aquatics and citrus scents, to name a few. But an eau de parfum isn’t the only way to get your fragrance fix — perfume oils are another great option.
What is Perfume Oil?
“A perfume oil is a finished perfume, but it’s in an oil base instead of an alcohol base,” explains David Seth Moltz, founder and perfumer of D.S. & Durga. Most eau de parfums use alcohol as a base because it doesn’t have a scent and is easy to combine with other ingredients.  “When you use oil as a base, its cons are that usually most oils have a scent to them and don’t have as much of that blending action. So, sometimes the fragrance has to fight through the scent of fat and wax and the stuff that oil smells like. There are oils that are less smelly — like fractionated coconut oil, apricot and kernel — which are pretty good for dilutions.”

As far as the perks, the best perfume oils have plenty. “The positive of an oil fragrance is that it travels well because it’s not flammable,” Moltz says. “It’s just easier to have in your bag. Also, alcohol can really destroy clothes. And, I would say the actual application of rolling on perfume oil is a very comfortable experience. You can rub it in and it has a softer quality to it. Oils are naturally moisturizing to your skin.”
Plus, since perfume oils don’t have an alcohol base, that makes them much better for sensitive skin.
The Different Types of Perfume Oils
Technically, perfume oils can be categorized by their base oil. “There’s olive oil, sweet almond, apricot, fractionated coconut and sunflower,” Moltz lists as a few examples. Perfume oils can also be categorized like eau de parfums into fragrance families, such as gourmands, florals and woody and fresh, to name a few categories.
How to Apply Perfume Oil
Applying a perfume oil can be a more sensory experience than when applying spray alternatives. “It’s a different experience putting it on,” Moltz says. He recommends rolling a perfume oil onto the wrists and neck and then gently tapping it in. Apply it to pulse points will help the scent stick around longer.
Ultimately, perfume is a key part of personal style, no matter if you like to mix it up with a fragrance wardrobe or you’re committed to a signature scent. No matter what kind of notes you gravitate toward, you simply want your perfume to be a reflection of yourself. Start a new scent journey (or give one of the best beauty gifts to any woman in your life) with the best perfume oils, ahead.

The 13 Best Body Sprays for Women, According to Scent Experts

The 13 Best Body Sprays for Women, According to Scent Experts

We all want to smell good, but sometimes perfume can be, well, a lot (especially on steamy summer days or when you’re in close quarters with someone.) Enter: the best body sprays, your scent alternative savior. Think of fragrance mists as a lighter version of women’s perfume, making them ideal for any time you want to take the intensity down a notch.
Fragrance mist vs. perfume
“The biggest difference between the two forms is the intensity of fragrance and ultimately the fragrance experience on skin,” explains Jodi Geist, director of product development at Bath & Body Works. “Perfumes have a higher fragrance load than our Fine Fragrance Mists, and in many instances, include notes and ingredients that have more depth.

She continues: “Due to the higher level of fragrance used in an eau de parfum, the experience is more enhanced, diffusive and longer-lasting. As such, eau de parfums are often applied minimally throughout the day. Our Fine Fragrance Mist forms do have similarities to that of the eau de parfum in way of fragrance experience and longevity, however, they tend to be lighter and softer on skin, and are often applied liberally throughout the day for a quick refresh and burst of fragrance.”

Another key difference between a fragrance mist and perfume is that some fragrance mists do not contain alcohol, while perfumes almost always do. “I only use an alcohol-free body mist in my hair,” says Brook Harvey-Taylor, founder and CEO of Pacifica Beauty. “Straight alcohol can be very drying to your hair, so I avoid using perfume, and hair is such a great vehicle for a scent.”
She goes on to explain that, “a body mist is also good to use straight out of the shower to give a light overall spray. Basically, you would use a body mist when you want to have a more subtle scent. Use perfumes on pulse points to get more complexity and last-ability.”
Since fragrance mists tend to use less expensive blends than perfumes, your wallet will notice. “Mists are generally more than half the price of their perfume counterparts and contain five times the liquid,” Harvey-Taylor says.
Remember, though, that one isn’t necessarily better than the other — choosing the right one all comes down to personal preference. “Everyone experiences and uses fragrance differently,” says Abbey Bernard, director of merchandising for fragrant body care at Bath & Body Works. “For those in search of a softer fragrance experience or to refresh oneself after a shower or working out, a fragrance mist might be the better option for a lightweight scent. For those who want to experience fragrance that is richer, longer lasting and pervasive, an eau de parfum would be the optimal choice.”
The best way to apply body spray
“A fine fragrance mist can be used liberally over the entire body and can be applied whenever a pop of fragrance is desired,” Geist says. Be patient and let the mist dry without rubbing it in. “Rubbing it can break down the fragrance material molecules and mute them,” explains Harvey-Taylor. “I even use them to refresh my clothes before I steam or iron them. But make sure that you test this first, as not all clothing likes all body mists. When in doubt, stick to your skin and hair.”

How can you make the scent last longer?
Body mists aren’t known for their staying power, but there are tricks to make them last a little longer on your body. “Layering is a great way to enhance the fragrance experience throughout the day,” says Julie McCarter, senior vice president of merchandising for fragrant body care at Bath & Body Works. “Start with your base (in your favorite scent, of course) — a cleanser formula (shower gel or body wash), then apply a moisturizer and finish off with a body spray. It’s an easy daily fragrance ritual of cleansing, moisturizing and applying fragrance!”
Below, find the 13 best best body sprays you’ll want to be misting on all the time. Bonus: They also make great fragrance and beauty gifts for any woman on your list this season.

The 25 Best Perfume Gift Sets for the Fragrance Lover in Your Life

Looking to cross a few items off your holiday shopping list but don’t know where to start? Sure, hair gifts, makeup gift sets, spa gifts and bath bombs are welcome options (and check out these gifts for women), but the best perfume gift sets really raise the bar. Whether you’re gifting a fresh bottle of someone’s tried-and-true signature scent or introducing them to something new, fragrance gift sets are always a winning beauty gift.
“Fragrance is truly a personal gift for a loved one, as it shows thought was put into the purchase,” says Leigh Quilhot, Senior Director of Merchandising at Bluemercury. “Scent is closely linked with memory, in ways that the gift of fragrance can evolve nostalgic emotions of a trip or transport them back to a special moment in their lives. Fragrance is also strongly tied to self-care. It could be the ritual of lighting a candle at the end of the day or taking a moment to spritz yourself with your favorite scent. Fragrance is extremely visual, whether it’s the glass bottle of perfume sitting on top of your vanity or a ceramic candle on your coffee table. It’s a gift that has a daily presence in the lives of loved ones — and perfect for Instagram, too!”

What makes perfume gift sets even more exciting during the holiday is that you can nab options that aren’t available the rest of the year. “The holidays are a fun time for fragrance as we are seeing limited-edition packaging, artist collaborations, and new formats that will be only available during the holidays,” Quilhot says. “Giving the gift of wellness also has come through in fragrance — we love the idea of gifting your loved one an aromatherapy-inspired gift, such as a gorgeous stone diffuser from Vitruvi. We are continuing to see home fragrance double as home décor. The vessels from our new brands L’objet and Harlem Candle Co., along with limited-edition holiday candles from Diptyque, NEST, and LAFCO are so gorgeous you’ll want to reuse them long after the wax has burned down.”

19 Best Beauty Subscription Boxes to Upgrade Your Routine

19 Best Beauty Subscription Boxes to Upgrade Your Routine

From niche brands to trending launches, the best beauty subscription boxes offer an easy way to get your hands on your next favorite discovery at a discount. By sourcing popular and up-and-coming beauty products and bundling them together at a price that’s less than the sum of their original retail value, beauty subscription boxes allow customers to try more products than they may typically grab in the checkout line — all for a fraction of the cost. For this reason, they appeal to longtime beauty shoppers and new ones alike. In fact, recent data from Emarsys shows that beauty boxes are the most subscribed-to box service in the U.S., ahead of both food and drink and fashion categories.
For the 32 percent of U.S. consumers that currently subscribe to a beauty box, these mailers deliver curated assortments of makeup, skin care, hair care and fragrance products straight to their doors. Average monthly costs range from $15 to $50, allowing plenty of flexibility to go for a low monthly fee or a bigger splurge. To keep costs down and variety plentiful, boxes tend to contain deluxe sample sizes, sometimes mixed in with full-size selects. Certain companies focus on bestsellers and new launches, while others target more specific categories like clean beauty, wellness, or K-beauty. Services like Birchbox and BoxyCharm take it a step further by allowing subscribers to personalize their beauty boxes to their routines, offering even more of a guarantee that they’ll enjoy what’s inside.
