The Emmy Awards may be television’s biggest night out, but if anyone knows how to take that energy even further, it’s Zendaya. Nominated for outstanding lead actress in a drama series for her powerful performance as the teenage drug addict Rue in Euphoria, the 26-year-old dialed up the glamour in a custom Valentino ballgown, serving as further proof (if you needed it) that she’s Hollywood’s most stylish ingenue, bar none.
Photo: Getty
Designed specifically for the occasion by Valentino’s creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, the dramatic gown featured a form-fitting bodice with a subtle peplum detail and a sweeping full skirt that paid homage to screen sirens from decades past. As Zendaya’s stylist Law Roach told Vogue, the dress was inspired by pieces worn by Grace Kelly in her 1950s fashion icon heyday, as well as a look from Valentino’s fall 1987 collection worn by none other than Linda Evangelista in a Steven Meisel ad campaign.

To complete the look, Zendaya pulled her hair back with a sleek silk band for a further nod to cinema from decades past (Brigitte Bardot, eat your heart out), while letting her brushed-out curls fall to her shoulders—all the better to frame her glittering Bulgari jewels. If there’s one thing Roach and Zendaya know, it’s how to effortlessly balance retro with right now. We’re studiously taking notes.

Balqees Fathi Embodies the Vibrant Spirit of Color With Valentino’s New Pink PP Collection

Vogue Arabia, September 2022. Photo: Mann
With the launch of its Pink PP collection, Valentino is making quirky waves and bringing brighter, dramatic hues to the fashion domain in one fell swoop. The vibrant ensembles, which have already become a global hit, range from the styles of sass to comfort, rightly paying tribute to the brand, Maison Valentino, and its shift to glossy glamor and alluring themes.
Electric hues can often be tricky to nail, but as Maison Valentino takes bold strides with its bright pink collection, the world’s best dressed stars, from Zendaya and Dua Lipa to Vanessa Hudgens, have been unable to resist its cheerful palette. Directed by the creative mastermind of Valentino, Pierpaolo Piccioli, the new Valentino collection is stripping its color palette down to a single hue as an experimental urge rises within the brand. Piccioli has been envisioning the fashion world through his rose-colored lens for quite some time now, and in this month’s issue of Vogue Arabia, Emirati singer Balqees Fathi takes over our pages in a range of delicious looks from the brand’s latest drop. While the color of her ensembles remains constant, what makes her looks pop is Piccioli’s innovative mix of textures. While one shot shows Balqees dripping in rosy rhinestones, another has her doused in plush feather details. The bold Pierpaolo Piccioli pinks are only interrupted with solid washes of black, which bring in a hint of drama.
In her latest shoot, Balqees sets the mood for escapism that matches the thought process Valentino is hoping to bring attention to. Below, dive into Balqees’s dreamworld of pinks and ebonies. You won’t be able to resist its romantic charm.

Meghan Markle’s Modest Red Co-Ord is a Lesson in Stylish Business Dressing

Meghan Markle’s Modest Red Co-Ord is a Lesson in Stylish Business Dressing

Photo: Instagram.com
Given her impressive streak of color-saturated monochrome ensembles over the years, it’s no surprise that Meghan Markle picked a striking red look for her first public speech in the United Kingdom since stepping down as senior royals two years ago. The Duchess of Sussex took the stage at the One Young World Summit in Manchester on Monday, where she addressed 2,300 delegates from over 190 countries and territories while making a strong case for modest and stylish workwear.

Her outfit of choice was a Valentino co-ord, featuring the Italian brand’s collarless blouse with a tie around the neck and straight-legged trousers, both in a bright red shade. She completed her look with matching pointed-toe heels by celebrity-loved footwear label Aquazzura, minimal gold jewelry, and her signature sleek ponytail. Royal watchers were quick to note that Markle’s outfit might be a light nod to her mother-in-law Princess Diana, after her 25th death anniversary last week. The late royal was photographed by Patrick Demarchelier in a red Valentino dress for British Vogue just before she passed away in 1997.

This is not the first time the Duchess has championed demure style in Valentino. One of her most talked-about looks this year has been an oversized all-white suit by the fashion house, which she wore to the Invictus Games in the Netherlands. Her latest look is also reminiscent of her monochrome look during her last appearance at the One Young World Summit in 2019. While she chose to wear a dress by Aritzia then, it too came in a modest silhouette and a vibrant shade of purple.

The fashion world is clearly not over the magic of the color pink, and neither is Balqees Fathi. For her sold-out concert in Dubai, the Emirati-Yemeni singer stunned in a full Valentino look, in the fashion house’s signature and shocking hue of pink nonetheless.

Fathi went for an ultra-feminine outfit from the Valentino Pink PP collection, which featured a mini dress paired with tights and gloves, styled by Cedric Haddad. While the dress came with glittering floral embellishments all over, the opaque tights and gloves were all matte for contrast. The highlight, however, were the staggering high platforms, which continue to rank high on every young fashion lover’s wish list, and added a bold edge to Fathi’s otherwise girly look. The singer also posed for the ‘gram in a series of photos, which show her look accessorized by a pair of dainty earrings by Marli New York. Sleek and straight hair balanced out the loudness of her outfit, while neutral, matte makeup completed her look for the evening.

This marks Fathi’s second pink ensemble from Valentino, following the laser cut dress she wore to the fashion house’s Fall-Winter 2022 couture show in Rome. In case you were not sold on the color yet, let her latest look change your mind.

Her outfit, a vibrant co-ord, was picked from Valentino, the brand that helped popularize the color this season via its Fall/Winter 2022-23 collection. The singer’s collared top came with full sleeves and a flattering corset-style silhouette, while flared bottoms added femininity to her look. The 22-year-old accessorized the pieces with pink platform heels from Valentino and fuchsia gloves for her signature edgy aesthetic. The ‘Minefields’ singer also wore her dark mane in a high ponytail with gelled locks of hair framing her face. For her glam, Faouzia balanced out the brightly colored ensemble with a neutral makeup look, featuring defined lashes and a nude lip.

Amal Clooney’s Second Minidress of This Week Is a Summery Red and White Valentino Number

Amal Clooney’s Second Minidress of This Week Is a Summery Red and White Valentino Number

The human rights lawyer typically gravitates towards maxi hemlines or trousers (see the floral column gown she wore to the Prince’s Trust Awards in May and the breathtaking snow-white 16Arlington dress she wore to the premiere for The Tender Bar in autumn) but this summer, she’s embracing the mini head on.
Take note of her styling: her A-line Valentino mini was elevated with simple sunny accessories that were suitable for daytime, but with strappy stilettos and a clutch, the patterned dress could make for a striking evening look. One thing’s for sure: Amal has your summer style inspiration sorted.

Fall 2021 couture
While Paris is where Valentino has traditionally presented its couture collections, this season, the brand is returning to its Italian roots. On July 8, Friday, at 10pm GST, the fashion house will unveil its Fall/Winter 2022 collection named The Beginning, at Piazza di Spagna, Rome, setting off a series of initiatives in the city to help restore its status as an international events venue once again.
“Roma is the place where everything starts, the life, the people, our stories, and identities are here,” creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli said via a note in the invitation to the show. “We belong to this place as much as this place belongs to the world and to Valentino.” In an Instagram post, the designer went on to say, “Piazza di Spagna is a symbol of art and history, but for all of us it is also our daily life, a working context, the subway stop, the lunch break, taxis, rain and sun, coffee. It is the natural extension of the Atelier, the stage of our stories, a vital environment that takes and gives back all of our energies and dreams. This is the Beginning, this is us.”
The show is expected to have a cast of individuals alongside models as part of Valentino’s mission to be more inclusive and diverse. As for the showgoers, students from various fashion and design schools will be invited before the brand opens its archives to visitors including the students from July 10 to 12.

Lebanese presenter Raya Abirached returned to the red carpet this weekend, dressed in a special look for one of the biggest events of this year’s award season. Attending the Bafta Awards 2022, and interviewing international stars as they enter the Royal Albert Hall, Abirached opted for a dress from the archives of Valentino.
Photo: Joanna Ezzat
Her outfit for the evening was curated by fellow Lebanese and stylist to the stars Cedric Haddad, who looked to the Italian fashion house’s older collections for the bold red number. The sarong-style dress featured a hybrid of a strapless and one-shoulder neckline which was adorned with gold sequins. To match the subtle bling, Abirached wore gold heels and jewelry from Bulgari, including the Serpenti watch. As for her glam for the night, the presenter wore her brown locks down, parted to the side, and styled in romantic waves which complemented her pink-toned makeup. Abirached’s glowy look featured bronzed skin, a rosy brown smoky eye, and a muted pink lip.

Representing the region, the presenter caught up with a number of Bafta nominees during the evening. With awards season now in full swing, this scarlet number may only be the first of many standouts looks to be served by Abirached.

5 Things To Know About Valentino’s Hot Pink FW22 Show

5 Things To Know About Valentino’s Hot Pink FW22 Show

Pierpaolo Piccioli unveiled a fall/winter 2022 Valentino collection at Paris Fashion Week that was entirely pink and black, and designed to encourage a “moment of reflection”. Vogue’s fashion critic Anders Christian Madsen reports.

The show was all pink and black

This season’s Valentino collection was entirely pink and black. “I was fascinated by the idea of having this moment of reflection and digging deeper,” Pierpaolo Piccioli said during a preview. Presented in a huge space painted to match the exact pink of the collection, his idea was to intensify the senses and make us look at the details of each garment – the silhouette, the neckline, the surface decoration – rather than focusing on “looks”. Ultimately, he said, he wanted the character of each model to stand out, rather than what their appearance represented.
The effect was meant to increase ways of seeing

“I wanted a moment of reflection: to think about what’s going on,” Piccioli said. “I was reading a book about Fontana [the Italian artist and Spatialist], who used to cut up his work – not in order to destroy it but to build new opportunities; new dimensions,” the designer went on. “You know when you see a book of black and white portraits, after two or three pages you know it’s a black and white portrait book, so you don’t expect to see blonde hair and blue eyes? You go deeper into expressions: wrinkles… I wanted to get that feeling.” Once the eye adjusted to all that pink, the effect did work. You noticed the details of garments, and looked at the models’ faces.
Piccioli focused on necklines to frame personalities

For Piccioli, whose work always revolves around the celebration of individuality and diversity, the monochromatism – which is, in essence, uniformity – was meant to draw the observer’s attention to the individual wearing the clothes. To underscore that point, he focused on necklines – what he called “Madonna meets the street” referring to the way the Holy Mother’s face was framed by Renaissance artists – and placed them on a cast including Penelope Tree and Kristen McMenamy. “You go deeper into the faces: who they are, and not what they represent,” he said. “When you see only pink, you get them.”
The collection elevated and expanded everyday codes
Photo: Courtesy of Valentino
Scored with different versions of Yazoo’s “Only You” – a nod to Piccioli’s individuality-highlighting premise – the collection continued his couture-ification of everyday codes, adapted for ready-to-wear. A t-shirt elongated into a draped minidress, a sporty jumpsuit morphed into a formalwear silhouette, and a generational cargo suit was imbued with a glamorous hourglass shape. Menswear dealt in the very oversized, from giant suits to puffer coats and highly embellished transparent evening tops, all of which will be sold in stores in just pink and black, the way it was presented, Piccioli vowed.
“Pink PP” will be a Pantone color
Photo: Courtesy of Valentino
Piccioli’s particular shade of pink will be added to Pantone’s official color scale under the name of “Pink PP” – a counterpart, perhaps, to Valentino Garavani’s “Valentino Red”, although he said it wasn’t meant to rival the house’s trademark color. And while he never wears pink himself, Piccoli explained it’s an ongoing fascination. “I always want pink in my collections. It’s a color I feel you can subvert better, because it already has a lot of meaning. It changed during the centuries: it was the color of the power of men, then it became girlish… I like to subvert the idea. Today, it means different things.”
