Estée Lauder to Buy Tom Ford For US$2.8 Billion

Estée Lauder to Buy Tom Ford For US$2.8 Billion

Beauty giant Estée Lauder Cos Inc. has purchased luxury American fashion, cosmetics and fragrance brand Tom Ford. The deal sees Tom Ford himself remaining as the brand’s creative director until the end of 2023, when the newly-minted billionaire plans to move on. Already responsible for the license for Tom Ford Beauty, overseeing the distribution and management of the designer’s luxury fragrances and makeup – a profitable collection which saw an almost 25 percent net sales growth in a combined Q1 and Q2 this year. The deal ensures that Estée Lauder will completely acquire the well-performing Tom Ford Beauty, as well as add a fully-fledged fashion house to its portfolio for the first time, a move that experts say mimics similar moves made by other major luxury groups.

First prominent as the boundary-pushing creative director for Gucci, then Yves Saint Laurent, Ford opened his eponymous fashion house in 2005. Tom Ford Beauty first launched in 2008 with the iconic Black Orchid EDP, a spicy floral created by David Appel and Pierre Negrin. Released the following year, the brand’s Private Blend collection cemented Tom Ford Beauty as a chic and sexy companion to Ford’s sultry fashion aesthetic. Color cosmetics followed in 2011, with a skincare line named Tom Ford Research launching in 2019.
While Tom Ford Beauty is predicted to continue its upwards success, Estée Lauder has seen multiple beauty brands in its stable close recently. Female-founded brands Rodin Olio Russo and Becca Cosmetics both shuttered in the last two years. Its designer fragrances division which holds the licenses for Donna Karan, DKNY, Michael Kors, and Tommy Hilfiger will be closed in June 2023, leaving the brands to seek new agreements elsewhere.

Diwali 2022 Gift Guide: 30 Presents That Are Perfect for the Festival of Lights

Diwali 2022 Gift Guide: 30 Presents That Are Perfect for the Festival of Lights

It’s that time of the year again! Just before Halloween, Christmas and New Year comes Diwali, the Indian festival of lights that sees homes around the world light up to celebrate the triumph of good over evil. If you celebrate the occasion, it’s likely that you’re planning to host a get-together over the coming days, or are seeing your calendar quickly fill up with Diwali outings at the homes of your closest friends and family. And no Diwali is truly complete without a few good gift exchanges.
Before we get started with this year’s gift guide, however, an important note for all who celebrate Diwali: With environmental concerns only growing stronger year on year, it’s important for all to approach the festival of lights more thoughtfully, using the occasion to reconnect with loved ones and make memories without fireworks and crackers, which are extremely harmful to the ozone layer, dangerous to humans, traumatic for animals, and major contributors of noise pollution.
Now let’s dive in! Household pieces are always a winning choice when it comes to Diwali gifting—why not treat your favorite hosts to ikat print glasses, a paisley print throw, or Versace cake stand? Other must-haves include La DoubleJ’s vibrant dessert plates, party-ready pearl-detailed napkin rings by Completedworks, and beaten gold trays by Tom Dixon, which can easily be decorated with fresh marigold blooms for an authentic festive finish.
For the hosts who love throwing card parties during Diwali, there’s no going wrong with a pristine Alexandra Llewellyn cards set, which comes in rich wooden casing, or even a travel-friendly set by Aerin. A scented Jo Malone candle makes a great pick for those who like to brighten up ever corner, as are Trudon’s earthy candle holders and Ginori’s incense burners.
Coming to fashion, Diwali is a wonderful time to invest in festive wear, and young Indian designers like Saaksha & Kinni and Arpita Mehta are offering up an array of ensembles that perfectly blend traditional elements with modern silhouettes. As for beauty, Miss Dior’s hair oil is as apt a choice as Saanté Selfcare’s collection of facial elixirs and hair potions, all made using ancient Indian remedies rooted in Aromatherapy, Reiki and Ayurveda. For makeup enthusiasts, Makeup by Mario’s jewel-toned eyeshadow palette is a festive must-have.

Always ready to take over the internet with an exciting new drop, MAC Cosmetics is celebrating a rather special collaboration this season. The much-loved makeup brand, which has earned a cult following for its vast range of lip colors, is now celebrating a fresh new hue. The latest shade, which happens to be a limited edition number, has been created by none other than Iraqi content creator Noor Stars.

“I’ve been dying to announce what I’ve been cooking up with MAC Cosmetics for the past two years!!!!” Stars finally revealed on Instagram on August 29. The cheeky teaser showed a series of clips of the YouTuber hiding her lips from the camera, and a newer post last week revealed the shade of her personalized new lipstick for the makeup brand. Named Warm Dusty Rose, this matte hue is fresh, light, and perfect for the summer. “My shade was inspired by my daily life needs when it comes to lipstick. A shade suitable for everyone, everywhere and at all times,” Stars told Vogue Arabia.

The latest drop in MAC’s range of MAC Maker colors wasn’t just selected by Stars, but was also made with her beauty priorities at the forefront. A part of a total of eight MAC Maker lippies, each limited edition lipstick is unique to its public personality, taking inspiration from the talent, along with their inputs on specific formulations that impact the color, texture and finish of the final product. The eight MAC Makers—who are leaders in a range of fields, from modeling and beauty to music, dance, comedy, and much more—have all reportedly worked closely with MAC Artists and the brand’s product development team to perfect their offering. What’s more, each limited edition lipstick will only be available in the region where its MAC Maker resides. “This partnership has been one of the most noteworthy milestones in my career,” Stars shared. “Having walked the same path a select few highly-influential individuals have walked, I am grateful for the opportunity to leave my mark.”

Like all MAC favorites, the lipstick promises satisfying color payoff, and works seamlessly on all skin tones. Noor Stars’ edition comes in a summery ombré case that transforms from a cheerful pink to yellow gold, and finally, a lush leafy green. The casing also features her signature, giving it one more personal element that promises to make her whopping 13.2 million followers feel more connected to her. Add this one to your wish list for the season.

Exclusive: Valentino Beauty Lands in the Middle East with Exclusive Dubai Pop-Up

Exclusive: Valentino Beauty Lands in the Middle East with Exclusive Dubai Pop-Up

After launching online earlier this year, Valentino Beauty will now be available in the Middle East for the first time, with the opening of the brand’s new beauty pop-up boutique today. Located in The Dubai Mall’s Fashion Avenue, the limited boutique boasts a state-of-the-art immersive experience, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the couture-styled world of Valentino Beauty. In addition to being able to explore the new collection of lips, eyes, and complexion products with hands-on tutorials, visitors can celebrate the new opening with interactive games and prizes, and supersized Valentino Beauty photo opportunities. A speciality gift-wrapping station makes it simple to pick up beauty-inspired holiday gifts, wrapped in an environmentally conscious, reusable tote bag.Appearing at today’s launch is makeup artist Raoúl Alejandre, Valentino Beauty’s first Global Makeup Artist. In an exclusive interview with Vogue Arabia ahead of the pop-up’s launch, he shares his thoughts on how the brand will fit into the Arab beauty market.

“For me, I couldn’t categorize Valentino Beauty as being for any particular kind of person, as it’s as unique as we are. It’s been evolving since the launch and represent the different kinds of beauty in the world. The products have different technical approaches to them, so it doesn’t matter if you’re a professional makeup artist or someone trying out something new.
That said, as a makeup artist myself, it’s really important to me to have products which are multi-use, as when I was starting out in the industry, I sometimes felt restricted by products when they only had one functional end or direct usage. Our brow product, for example, has three components, which makes it the only thing you need for a complete brow look. You only need to buy one thing that works for you.”
Valentino Beauty Eye2Cheek“This is my favorite, it’s inspired by the couture shows, where we did this beautiful blush draping, and be used to contour and as eyeshadow too.”

Valentino Beauty Brow Trio“This has everything you need to create a full brow look, from start to finish.”
Valentino Beauty Go Clutch“The case is stunning, and perfect for red carpet touch-ups. There’s the finishing powder which blurs, and a Valentino red lipstick.”
