HM Queen Rania of Jordan‘s formal style sense is once again having its moment in the spotlight, courtesy of a statement skirt. The royal made her first public appointment since the death of her father by visiting Beit Khairat Souf in Jerash on Tuesday, where she connected with representatives and beneficiaries of Alnoor Almouben Association, a women-led organization that runs the heritage site.

For the meeting, Queen Rania chose a summer-appropriate and modest ensemble, with its highlight being a denim midi skirt by Gabriela Hearst. Featuring a flared hem with thin white stitching around it, the wardrobe staple was paired with another classic piece: a white shirt. The collared blouse was tucked into the skirt and came with embroidered balloon sleeves, lending her look a breezy yet polished vibe. To complete the outfit, Queen Rania wore a pair of black pointed-toe pumps by Dior. While the royal often wears her hair down in waves or in a half-up-half-down style, she summer-proofed her tresses this time with a textured ponytail and a lock of hair covering the tie. Her makeup too was kept minimal as it was worn under a face mask matching her skirt for the most part.

Queen Rania is clearly a fan of the fail-safe white shirt and denim, having worn the combination on multiple outings. Just earlier this year, the royal had iftar at an orphanage wearing the timeless pieces, while jeans—both skinny and flared—often make an appearance in her public wardrobe, proving they are essentials she swears by. Queen Rania is not the only royal to have embraced denim for summer. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex too wore a denim shirt and shorts to Prince Harry’s polo match at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club.

Blake Lively Gave Her Pastel Versace Gown a Casual Spin With This Denim Jacket

Blake Lively Gave Her Pastel Versace Gown a Casual Spin With This Denim Jacket

When it comes to couture, most celebrities play it safe. Wearing fashion’s highest artform can be daunting, and the desire to stay true to a designer’s vision often hinders experimentation. Thankfully, stars like Blake Lively think outside the box. At the New York premiere of husband Ryan Reynolds’ new sci-fi drama, The Adam Project, Lively arrived in a dazzling mix of high-end and accessible fashion. Dipping into the archives to unearth a rainbow gown from Atelier Versace, Lively brought back the spring 2019 collection, one of Donatella’s most festive in recent memory. A mix of pastel shades—lavender, periwinkle, pink, and baby blue—with a thigh-baring slit, her look was a romantic take on Versace’s trademark sexiness.
Photo: Getty
Most of the couture worn at premieres or events is styled to match what is presented on the runway, but having worn more than her share of sultry Atelier Versace creations, Lively decided to have fun with things. Throwing on a long, light-wash jean jacket, Chanel’s hot pink flap clutch, and Gucci’s rhinestone-embellished Mallory sandals, she utilized multiple labels. Lively, who doesn’t rely on a stylist and isn’t boxed in by a brand contract, is free to mix and match labels in a way that feels true to her personality and as she posed in her pastel finery for the photographers gathered outside Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall she seemed in her element.

Though she removed her outerwear to walk the step and repeat with Reynolds, the addition of the casual staple is what made Lively’s outfit a standout. A simple way to take ultra-luxury pieces off their pedestal and bring them into the real world, the jean jacket added nonchalance to the look and an easy-to-replicate style lesson. You might not have a piece of Versace couture hanging at the back of your closet, but odds are there’s some denim there waiting to be incorporated into your evening wear.

Deepika Padukone has become the latest celebrity to nail the denim-on-denim look. For the promotions of her latest film Gehraiyaan, the Indian actor took the lesser-seen athleisure side of her work wardrobe to the next level in an Adidas x Ivy Park ensemble.
While the outfit is a bold choice in itself, it fits right in with the actor’s penchant for making the extraordinary pieces sourced by stylist Shaleena Nathani her own. The 36-year-old wore a denim bustier-style bodysuit with exposed seams from the two brands’ collaborative collection, featuring Adidas’ signature three white stripes on each side. Adding a touch of comfort to the look, the corset was paired with oversized denim trousers, held at the waist with a wide elasticated band and covered in a wavy pattern.

Deepika Padukone paired her elevated athleisure outfit with a clean beauty look
The Adidas ambassador‘s athletic outfit was made complete by styling her hair up in an updo with a few strands left loose for an effortlessly messy look. Going for a fresh beauty look, Padukone’s lips were painted in a bright coral shade to contrast the blue denim, while her eyes featured thick, wingless eyeliner, and cheekbones lightly defined with bronze contour.

If you’ve been on the hunt for a weekend look that’s equal parts comfortable and striking, Deepika Padukone’s latest pick for the Gehraiyaan promo tour may just hit the nail on the head. Want to elevate it further? All you need is your favorite pair of gold hoops, and you’re good to go.

Nadine Nassib Njeim Kickstarts Her Birthday Celebrations With a Surprise Bash

Photo: Instagram.com/nadine.nassib.njeim
Nadine Nassib Njeim turns 38 on Monday, January 7, but that doesn’t mean the Lebanese star is going to wait for D-Day to start celebrating the milestone moment. Currently traveling, the actor received a sweet surprise while staying at The St. Regis Downtown Dubai, which served as the perfect beginning note of what’s likely to be an action-packed weekend.
Just minutes ago, Njeim took to Instagram to share a playful video of herself dancing in her hotel room, which was decked out with black and gold balloons, and a large gold banner that read out “Happy Birthday NNN”. The star was also surprised with a golden revolving cake installation, which came decorated with some of her most iconic snapshots and hidden fairy lights. Given that she’s enjoying a few days off, Njeim shot the video in an easy casual look that’s perfect for the weekend. Check it out below.

Nadine Nassib Njeim’s casual birthday look proves that denim is always a good idea
In her video, Nadine Nassib Njeim was seen enjoying her birthday surprise in a comfy denim-on-denim look. The star wore a pair light wash high-waisted jeans in a relaxed silhouette, which matched perfectly with her cropped denim jacket. Instead of wearing the layer as one normally would, Njeim gave her nod to the ‘shrobing’ trend by sliding the shoulders of her jacket back, revealing a snug tank top in a warm shade of brown. The top’s earthy hue instantly elevated the casual look and gave it a luxe spin.
To complete her OOTD, Nadine Nassib Njeim went with her fail-safe beauty look, highlighting her striking features with contour, and leaving her lush locks open in waves and swept to one side. That, paired with the neutral palette of her outfit, created a fail-safe off-duty look that’s equal parts comfortable and cool. It’s safe to say that the rest of the star’s birthday weekend is going to be just as fun as today was.

Off-Shoulder Tops, Denim, and More: Rym Saidi’s January Wardrobe Is All Things Cool

While Rym Saidi is often seen in stunning gowns and floor-grazing dresses, one would be remiss to think her casual style isn’t just as remarkable. The Dubai-based Tunisian actor recently offered a glimpse into her off-duty wardrobe via a photo dump of OOTD pictures with plenty of inspiration to go around.

Stars, they are just like us. The former Vogue Arabia cover star proved that an elevator selfie can’t be resisted when it comes to showing off your outfit by sharing the series of photos with her 1.7 million Instagram followers. Keeping the best for the first, the opening look showed the mother-of-two in a smart-casual, all-black ensemble consisting of a blazer by Lebanese designer Boudi Dib and YSL jeans. The highlight? An off-shoulder asymmetrical bodysuit that has fast become a street style favorite and has been spotted on It girls like Bella Hadid. Saidi’s particular décollatage-baring number was by New York-based brand Alix, known for its bodycon dresses and cold shoulder bodysuits.
Photo: Instagram.com/rymsaidi
Those who wish to make a statement with the top can let Saidi’s second look be their guide. The actor wore another bodysuit in green from the same brand, but on its own this time, and paired it with loose-fitted blue denims from B Sides Jeans for a more relaxed look. With a pair of white sneakers from Common Projects and a Dior monogram bag, her outfit was complete. In another standout ensemble in the photo gallery, Saidi showed us how best to wear a sleeveless knitted top. The actor wore her off-white pick from Sportmax with a pair of pleated trousers from Lebanon-based brand Life and elevated the whole look by tying a sweater around her neck. The last and the most casual look of them all saw the star in the classic white shirt (H&M), blue jeans (Grlfrnd), and white sneakers (Common Projects) combination, accessorized with Dior and Louis Vuitton bags.

Jennifer Lopez Is Bringing Back The Boho Denim Maxi Skirt

Jennifer Lopez Is Bringing Back The Boho Denim Maxi Skirt

Photo: Getty
“Boho chic” is a divisive phrase. To some, it conjures up low-slung harem pants worn with coin belts and tie-dye peasant blouses – the kind that give even the most forgiving fashion fans the ick. For others, it spells out the style of Sienna Miller, the Olsen twins, and Kate Moss. But now, one of the trend’s key pieces – the maxi skirt – is making a comeback on an unlikely source: Jennifer Lopez.
Spotted on the streets of Los Angeles this weekend, the 52-year-old pop superstar wore a boho-inspired Dior patchwork denim full-length skirt, a cream knitted roll-neck jumper, and a brown pair of distressed cowboy boots by Ralph Lauren. The look was topped off with a set of gold hoop earrings by Jennifer Fisher, brown Max Mara Geometric sunglasses, and a leather fringe Hobo bag from Chanel’s pre-fall 2014 Metiers D’art Paris-Dallas collection.
Later on, JLo waved the flag for the throwback style in yet another skirt, but this time, a more demure button-up style. The singer paired the piece with a black polo-neck, a forest green Gucci logo belt, and Alaïa velvet platform Hiker boots. Does this confirm that boho maxi skirts are back? Only time will tell, but Lopez certainly looks striking.

Sustainable Denim to Shop Now and Wear Forever

Sustainable Denim to Shop Now and Wear Forever

As one of the most resource-heavy, environmentally damaging items we buy, denim gets a bad rep. Made from cotton, which is mostly grown using harmful fertilizers and pesticides and requires a lot of water to produce (and results in over-farmed land and soil erosion), the impact our denim buying habits have on the health of the planet is significant. But it’s not all bad news. Denim is also one of the hardiest and versatile materials in our wardrobes and deserves its fashion staple status. Shopped wisely and sparingly, a classic pair of jeans can (and should) transition effortlessly from season to season.

Thankfully a growing number of brands have come up with a solution to satiate our love of denim while limiting their environmental impact (scroll through to shop their latest jean styles). Specializing in vintage denim, reworked into modern cuts using deadstock materials, these brands keep the focus on localized production meaning each stage of the manufacturing process takes place in a small area which, to put it simply, caps their carbon footprint.
And it’s not just jeans that are being created with a sustainable mindset. Everything from jackets to skirts and dresses is being reworked for today’s more mindful shopper. Bahraini designer Noof Al Shekar has taken it one step further, adding a capsule of shoulder, top handle, and belt bags in recycled denim to her signature luxury line, NS By Noof. We caught up with the designer to discuss her planet-friendly offering…
Photo: Courtesy of NS By Noof
Why denim? Why now?
“When I started thinking about a sustainable line I wanted to create something hip and cool but at the same time classic, to suit every age – that’s when we had the idea of recycled denim.”
It must have been a challenge to work with a material you’ve never used before.
“I started looking into materials back in 2019…I wanted to create something that was influenced by my kids and the awareness this new generation have on the environment. The challenge was to create a practical design with geometric cuts that can be worn day to night, while maintaining the brand DNA.”
Photo: Courtesy of NS By Noof
Ethical practices are certainly a big focus for the fashion industry in general right now.
“I believe there’s an awareness of the environment and how we can make the world a better place – every profession has a way to express it and this is how [the fashion industry] can help.”
Who will this collection appeal to?
“Women who like to stand out by carrying a bag that looks chic but don’t necessarily want to show off the brand. Everything from the material we use to the hand-stitching reflects the quality, yet it’s also discrete.”
Photo: Courtesy of NS By Noof
Do you think ‘trends’ are still relevant?
“There will always be trends – they keep people excited about what is coming next; but I also believe people today are more aware of their own style and how to express who they really are…this is the art of fashion.”

How to Wear Jeans Like Bella Hadid, Zoë Kravitz, Kaia Gerber, and Kendall Jenner

How to Wear Jeans Like Bella Hadid, Zoë Kravitz, Kaia Gerber, and Kendall Jenner

The greatest wardrobe leveller? The item that unites the girl-next-door with the It-girl? Blue jeans, of course. The likes of Bella Hadid, Kaia Gerber and Zoë Kravitz swear by them – even for the front row, as the latter proved when she wore hers with a glittering chainmail top and strappy sandals to attend the Saint Laurent fall/winter 2020 spectacle last year.As even the most dedicated denim obsessive will know, finding the perfect fit isn’t easy. For starters, the denim lexicon is an expansive one – bootcut, wide-leg, tapered, Boyfriend, Mom, skinny and straight are just a handful of the terms you will encounter on the shop floor.
Baggy jeans were a major trend at the spring/summer 2021 shows; louche trousers were seen at Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Fendi and Balenciaga. Then the autumn/winter 2021 season quashed all claims that skinnies were dead: Molly Goddard introduced the ultimate dress-over-jeans styling hack at her show.
When shopping for a new pair of jeans, take your cues from the cool girls. See below for our handy how-to guide to wearing denim, inspired by the stars who do it best.
Don’t shy away from pattern. Styling trick: Pair your patterned denim with a simple cami to avoid overkill. Pep up with a standout accessory. Styling trick: When she’s not modelling lacy lingerie from her Savage X Fenty line or showing her love of statement vintage goods, Rihanna keeps things pretty low-key. But she always includes a look-at-me accessory, like a fluffy hat from Emma Brewin. Take them two sizes up. Styling trick: A fine-gauge knit tucked into a boyfriend shape semaphores cosy-chic. Reboot the jeans-and-a-going-out-top formula. Styling trick: Zoë Kravitz proved that jeans don’t have to be reserved for casual affairs – just add skyscraper sandals and a barely-there mesh top. If in doubt, pair with tailoring. Styling trick: Jeans and a blazer are a foolproof off-duty dress code for models zipping between shows, shoots and castings. Why pick one colour when you can have two? Styling trick: The world is a catwalk for 18-year-old Mona Tougaard. At London Fashion Week last February, she was spied wearing a spliced T-shirt and contrast two-tone jeans outside the shows. Try them tucked. Styling trick: Heavyweight stomper boots have been a key shoe shape for some time, and they’re the perfect companion to jeans. Kendall’s Prada lug-soled pair are popular with the street-style set and stars alike. Distressed denim can still look dressed-up. Styling trick: Ripped jeans are surprisingly versatile – add some edge to a smarter outfit with a pair of distressed skinnies à la Gigi Hadid, or keep it casual with a white T-shirt and trainers. Take über wide-legs for a whirl. Styling trick: Katie Holmes swears by a failsafe jeans-and-tee combo. Her favorite pairs are from Reformation, Rag & Bone and Ulla Johnson. Channel the summer of love with tie-dye. Styling trick: Several stars including Bella Hadid and Victoria Beckham tried their hand at tie-dying as a quarantine distraction. Why not release your own inner creative, and give your old jeans a lease of new life at the same time? Try a 2-in-1 look. Styling trick: Bella Hadid is no stranger to an avant-garde pair of jeans. This Vivienne Westwood pair combines classic blue and acid wash denim. Take a leaf out your dad’s book. Styling trick: Kaia Gerber prefers to keep it simple and often opts for a straight-leg, indigo blue pair of jeans that are the perfect foil for her dad trainers. When she’s not wearing Converse, New Balance 990s are her go-to. Push the grunge envelope. Styling trick: It’s no secret that Bella Hadid is obsessed with ’90s style. She’s added grungy, oversized denim to her wardrobe of cropped camis tube tops and micro sunnies.

A New Blueprint: Livia Firth Wants Us To Shop Ethical Denim, Here’s Why

A New Blueprint: Livia Firth Wants Us To Shop Ethical Denim, Here’s Why

Denim is one of the most environmentally destructive fabrics to produce, from its massive thirst for water to the pollution left in its wake. Livia Firth speaks to Alberto Candiani, owner of Italian manufacturer Candiani Denim, to find out if there’s a different way to go blue
Photography: Carla Guler

The first time I met Alberto Candiani, the fourth- generation owner of the family-run Candiani Denim, I was completely struck by his passion, knowledge, scientific research, and deep need to know every single part of his denim’s supply chain. What I did not expect was to also meet a heavy metal DJ and that we would end up talking about how to plant a denim garden.”
LIVIA FIRTH: Alberto, I love the story of Candiani’s sustainability journey starting from a garden… or better, from a nature reserve.
ALBERTO CANDIANI: Yes! Candiani was born in 1938 in the little town of Robecchetto, where Parco del Ticino nature reserve was founded in the 70s. This meant that for every decision, they had strict rules and restrictions. That forced us to become efficient and sustainable, long before the word “sustainability” was widely used. If you talk to my dad, he would say that efficiency is the grammar of sustainability. And I agree, because if you are efficient, it means you’re also sustainable, or at least that you have that type of proposition. As a consequence of that, we also had to become pure innovators.
Alberto Candiani

LF: What has been the driving force behind your innovation, research, and development? Was it always about becoming more sustainable and more environmentally friendly, or were you also driven by design?
AC: We were driven by a vision, for sure. Innovation goes into the ingredients and the process. You want to use less water, less chemicals, less energy, and you don’t want to compromise the quality of what you do. And in order to do so, you have to invest in new technologies, you need to invest in the people, you have to have ideas, and you have to make those things real. We are driven by a need for improvement.
The Candiani Dyeing Department

LF: Tell me about the two technologies that you are the proudest of in terms of sustainability
AC: Number one is Coreva, our bio-stretch technology, which is the only bio-based and biodegradable stretch technology available in the market. We are basically replacing common synthetic elastomers with a plant-based elastomer. The circular idea is to use that fabric or that garment at the end of its lifecycle to bio-fertilize the cotton that it’s made of again. This is full circularity, which five years ago I was told by a scientific committee was not possible. And now it’s possible, it’s demonstrated, and it is scalable. We launched it in 2019 with selected R&D partners like Denham and Stella McCartney, and in January 2021 we’ll scale the production. Another technology I’m proud of is Kitotex, which we licenced exclusively for the denim world. It utilizes chitosan, which is a bio-based and biodegradable polymer, to replace the liquid plastic normally applied on the yarns in order to weave them when you create the fabric. So Candiani is going plastic free. I’m giving up on even recycled plastic right now. No nylons – they’re just not needed for what we do. I’m also looking more into microplastics and liquid plastics, which are just as bad. We are cleaning up both the process and product to become plastic and micro-plastic free.
The Denham x Candiani Collaboration Makes Use Of Coreva Bio-Stretch Technology

LF: So, in a few years’ time, you could literally fertilize a field of denim with all the old denim that has been produced in this way?
AC: This is the idea. This is why Coreva is so important. It is revolutionary. We’ve even bio-fertilized fields of cotton with our scraps.
LF: You not only know exactly where your cotton comes from, but you have strong opinions about organic cotton versus non-organic, and you look into the supply chain very carefully. Why is that so important?
AC: I like to go and visit those fields that I get the cotton from myself and I like to have a direct relationship with the farmers. I care about the quality, the provenance, how it’s made, how it’s grown. Cotton is a very intensive plant to grow, but it’s been demonized too much lately. It is water consuming, true, but more than 65% of cotton grows because it rains. Sometimes it grows in specific areas of the world where you cannot plant other stuff, and it becomes a fundamental crop for the local agricultural rotation.
LF: You supply denim to lots of different brands. But lately you have decided to explore another business model: producing Candiani’s own custom-made brand of jeans. What’s the idea behind this?
AC: Our store in Milan is going to be a made-to-measure store with wide customization opportunities. The idea is to satisfy a question I’ve been asked so many times: Where do I buy the perfect pair of jeans? When you come here, we take your measurements, and we produce your perfect pair of jeans in only four hours. We will tell you about the Italian origins of denim, which not many know – it was invented 500 years ago in the city of Genoa.
LF: Will you also put a little DJ booth in the new store? Because I know you’re passionate about music…
AC: It’s pretty much gone now! With two kids and one coming… But when I find time to write some music or to produce it, I still go to the studio and I’m still loving it, even though the DJ career is over, and my band is over.
LF: But this is what we can do in the new store! You get to go for a dance with your perfect pair of jeans.
AC: I like the idea. Apart from the fact that you may not like my music, Livia… It’s quite heavy metal.
LF: Oh no! OK, forget about the last part of us dancing then…
