2022’s Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California celebrated the year’s best television shows and performances—but on the red carpet beforehand, the paparazzi were cheering on something a tad different: A-listers in their finest formalwear. Sticking to tradition, many stars in attendance adhered to the event’s signature glamorous feel. The designer dresses were heavy on the sequins, shining brighter than a disco ball in Studio 54.
Given the night’s best gowns went all in on sequins and beads, many of the silhouettes were simple and streamlined as a result. Squid Game star Hoyeon Jung’s sequin patchwork, for instance, was done on a no-fuss slip dress; Amanda Seyfried’s lilac sequins came via Armani Privé’s strapless column dress, with a sheer (and barely-there) accent of tulle at the bust. Both allowed for the frocks’ delicious texture to shine. Equally, Lily James’s slinky Versace chainmail dress, and Christina Ricci’s bedazzled Fendi Couture slip dress, were formfitting—and all about accentuating the shape.
It wasn’t all razzle-dazzle, though. A few celebrities opted for more of a pared-back elegance. Zendaya, in custom Valentino, embraced Old Hollywood with her strapless, full-skirted gowns. It’s a nod to an archival Valentino design from its fall-winter 1987 collection. The White Lotus’s Alexandra Daddario also stood out in a sheer, one-shoulder tulle gown from Dior Haute Couture, finished with sublime beadwork.
There were even a few risks tonight, too—namely Julia Garner’s embroidered Gucci dress with a cutout at the belly button, and Jasmin Savoy Brown in Christopher Kane’s latex dress with cutouts at the hips and bust. Skin is clearly in!

In the countdown to Vogue World: New York, we saw Lil Nas X hop on the subway, take a dip in the Central Park Reservoir, and play a cheeky game of telephone with Hailey Bieber, all to help spread the word ahead of tonight’s big event—and to the delight of all who tuned in, the Grammy-winning rapper was on hand, live and in person, to give a show-stopping performance.

After a night of flag-draped marathon runners, dancer, bikers popping wheelies, and guest appearances from the likes of Serena Williams, Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz, Jaquel Spivey, Marcus Samuelsson and Maya Haile, Jeremy O. Harris, Erykah Badu, and a whole raft of supermodels (Shalom Harlow, Joan Smalls, Paloma Elsesser, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Precious Lee, et cetera, et cetera), Lil Nas X shut the whole thing down with a rousing performance of “Industry Baby,” clad in a silvery crop top and silver lamé trousers. Under the street lamps (and spotlights) of West 13th Street, Nas and his backup dancers put on a proper show, ultimately strutting down the cobblestone catwalk flanked by Williams, Gigi, and Bella. Dare we call him a certified fashion industry baby?

The annual Venice Film Festival is one of the most glamorous in the world, right alongside the paparazzi-filled red carpets at Cannes. A-list celebrities show up not only to promote their new films but also to deliver strong style moments and work with top stylists to showcase the best creations from the new ready-to-wear and couture runways. It’s just as much a spectacle for fashion lovers as it is for film buffs. As such, Vogue is rounding up all the best looks from the film festival in one place.
Kicking off on August 30th, the Venice Film Festival has tons of buzzy movies making their premiere over the next two weeks—meaning all of Hollywood’s top talent will be there. On our radar? Blonde’s Ana de Armas, Bones & All’s Timothée Chalamet, Tár’s Cate Blanchett, and White Noise’s Jodie Turner-Smith, among many others. Turner-Smith is off to an especially strong start: Last night at the festival’s cocktail kick-off event, she wore a Raisa Vanessa’s blue mini dress with a fringed hemline.
At the same inaugural soirée, Julianne Moore—who is serving as the festival’s jury president this year—shone in an Alaïa confetti-print gown with a leather heart-shaped bustier, while Tessa Thompson sported a black tulle Rodarte blazer dress.

In its sixth year, Vogue’s Forces of Fashion summit will return as a virtual and in-person event in both New York and London on October 14. The event will allow audiences to watch Vogue editors from around the world speak with designers, influencers, and industry executives in a series of candid panels and discussions.
Headlining the event in New York at Spring Studios in New York are Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, supermodel Gigi Hadid, designer Christopher John Rogers, and artistic director of Fendi and Dior Men’s Kim Jones, among others. Meanwhile in London, British Vogue editor-in-chief and European editorial director Edward Enninful will be joined by Dua Lipa, makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, and photographer Nadine Ijewere.
Vogue Club members will have access to all this content on demand, as well as the opportunity to virtually join networking sessions with Vogue’s network of editors, stylists, and creatives, and attend the in-person event at a discounted price. A portion of the proceeds from the event—which is presented by Brizo, John Hardy, and Rothy’s—will support NewYork-Presbyterian’s Youth Anxiety Center.

Academy award winning actress Anne Hathaway arrived at the Italian Embassy in Paris sparkling, literally. Adorned in a necklace, bracelet, and ring by Bulgari, the actress was in the French capital to celebrate the new high jewelry collection, Eden, the Garden of Wonder by the Roman house’s creative director Lucia Silvestri. Joining her as faces of the brand were actress Priyanka Chopra and Thai rapper Lisa. Former first lady of France Carla Bruni also appeared at the beginning of the soiree, only to reappear for a surprise appearance on the runway met by cheers by guests.

Bulgari organized a high jewelry show within the Embassy to feature the 140 pieces in the collection. Models dressed in nude-colored dresses, with free-flowing hair appeared like contemporary goddesses adorned with the pieces featuring magnificent gemstones and semi-precious stones.

Afterwards, guests convened in the gardens for a dinner prepared by two-Michelin-starred chefs, French Yannick Alléno and Italian Emanuele Scarello. Sat at tables winding like serpents through grass, under a ceiling dripping with fuchsia flowers, guests enjoyed sea bass and toasted brioche, monkfish with basil and citrus burrata, and veal with capers and fresh lemon, and closed off the evening with a performance by Italian musician Mario Biondi who was joined on-stage by Carla Bruni.

Amid the series of star-studded Ramadan events hosted by international brands this month, Bottega Veneta launched its version of a majlis for not one, but three nights. Aptly named ‘The Square’, the structured space was conceptualized by Lebanese architect and musician Carl Gerges, one of the many talents celebrated by the Italian fashion house’s cultural exchange over April 12, 13, and 14, 2022. “The Square Dubai connects the two parts of who I am, music and architecture,” says Gerges. “My input entails linking design, music, and gatherings as a means to push forward a community of artists and thinkers in an architectural intervention.”

The custom place, rendered in signature Bottega Veneta green, invited small handpicked groups of guests from the local art, music, and fashion industries each night to discover the work of the Middle East’s emerging creatives. “To embrace an emphasis on sharing and togetherness at the time of Ramadan,” Bottega Veneta hosted film screenings, musical performances, storytelling sessions, poetry recitals, and offered cuisines by a number of local talents to its visitors.

Yemeni and East-African Shaima Al Tamimi showcased her short film Don’t Get Too Comfortable, which was also screened at La Biennale di Venezia, and nominated for the Orrizonti Award. The film is a letter to her late grandfather, contemplating their pasts and future as Arabs in the diaspora.

Next, poetry was read by Asma Al Badawi, the Sudanese-British spoken word poet known for advocating for inclusivity and diversity in women’s sports, and Mustafa the Poet, the Canadian songwriter whose genre-defying work explores his identity as a Black Muslim artist. Guests were also served delectable dishes made by Solemann Haddad, the chef and co-owner of Dubai’s newly opened restaurant, Moonrise.

After its debut in Dubai, the concept of The Square will travel to a few different cities on varying scales to foster local communities worldwide. According to the brand, The Square’s second installment will take place in Tokyo at the end of April.

On March 30, Repossi celebrated the 15th anniversary of Gaia Repossi as head of the artistic direction of the maison in Dubai. To mark the occasion, the luxury jewelry brand hosted an intimate dinner at the Koa Canvas in Nasab, which was attended by some of the regional fashion industry’s best-known, and also saw the presentation of the brand’s latest collection, Chromatic Sapphires.

Alongside Anne de Vergeron, CEO of Repossi, the guests in attendance included Vogue Arabia editor-in-chief Manuel Arnaut, Karen Wazen, Zeynab El-Helw, Oumayma Elboumeshouli, Natalia Shustova, Yasmin Al Mulla, Nora Al Sheikh, Nadya Hasan, Leena Al Ghouti, Parvane Barett, and more. They were invited to discover the exclusive Chromatic Sapphires collection, which is made up of 15 pieces to celebrate 15 years of “modernity and creations by Gaia Repossi”. Aptly named, the collection pays tribute to the colors of sapphires from the Umba Valley in Tanzania and the Moyo Gems association which is known for promoting better working conditions for women in the jewelry industry.

Expo 2020 Dubai comes to an end on March 31, with a closing ceremony that promises to be remembered for years to come. Similar to the opening ceremony, the grand finale will be held at the main site of the Expo, Al Wasl Plaza.
To be displayed across more than 20 big screens all over Expo 2020 Dubai, including the Jubilee Stage and Festival Garden for all visitors to be able to join the iconic experience, the closing ceremony will feature global artists Christina Aguilera, Yo-Yo Ma, and Norah Jones. Even the young Dubai-born girl from the opening ceremony will make a re-appearance at the event. “See global music icons, enjoy dazzling fireworks, and exciting performances unfold beneath the stunning Al Wasl Dome,” says the Expo 2020 Dubai Instagram account.

Kickstarting the ceremony will be the National Anthem of the UAE performed by forty members of a UAE-based children’s choir accompanied by the all-women Firdaus Orchestra and conducted by Yasmina Sabbah. The main ceremony will then begin at 7pm with Mira Singh, who will take the audience through the past six months of Expo 2020 Dubai. In the opening ceremony, the Indian-Belarusian star played a girl who is handed a golden ring, the central motif of Expo 2020, inspiring its logo as well. Her story will be wrapped up in the closing ceremony as she looks back at the growth and initiatives of an eventful six months. “For 182 days, she has grown, learned and connected with people from around the world — what remains is the final step before she awakens to her full potential,” mentioned Expo event organizers.

Adding to the list of exciting performances is Grammy-winning cellist Yo-Yo Ma, who will play at the Dubai Millennium Amphitheater at for 8.45pm. Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and pianist Norah jones will also perform at 9pm on the Jubilee Stage, followed by iconic pop star Christina Aguilera, who will take over at 10.45pm.
Before coming to a final close, Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Commissioner General of Expo 2020 Dubai, will hand the BIE flag to Ambassador Jai-chul Choi to be presented at Expo 2025 Osaka. After a night full of celebration and looking into the future with Expo, the evening will end with a flourish of fireworks at midnight, and again at 3am.

With stars often channelling Old Hollywood glamour at the Oscars, it’s no surprise that vintage has been a popular choice on the red carpet over the years. Last week, Cartier presented its high jewelry collection in the historic district of At-Turaif, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. The collection titled ‘Al Thara wa Althuraya’ was presented in partnership with Diriyah Gate Development Authority – a curated showcase of over 200 pieces of beautiful designs (and 40 from the iconic Cartier collection), most of which have never been presented before to the public. The exhibition was an homage to the maison’s longstanding relationship with the Kingdom. “This collaboration is a true honor, and we would look forward to the journey ahead,” said Kalid Lanssari, Managing Director of Cartier, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Cartier’s five style indicators—fauna and flora, geometry and contrast, architecture and epure, cultural explorations, and ludique—are beautifully reflected in the striking designs that are currently being exhibited, and embody Cartier’s signature aesthetic, that of everlasting and timeless designs, and an endless devotion to creating novel pieces.  The maison’s commitment to preserving exquisite heritage sites also falls in line with the venue of the exhibit. At-Turaif’s importance as a major cultural symbol of the Kingdom, of course, is well known in the region. “As a global destination for historical and cultural enthusiasts, the ‘Al Thara wa Althuraya’ exhibition is an ideal complement to what we do, and most importantly, pays respect to Saudi’s rich and diverse history,” shared Jerry Inzerillo, Group CEO of Diriyah Gate Development Authority.

Some of the most notable pieces in the exhibition included Cartier’s Chimera bracelet (made in 1929 and crafted entirely of platinum, and green and blue gemstones), and the infamous Crocodile necklace, made in 1975 for the screen siren María Félix. Created using more than a thousand yellow diamonds and a thousand emeralds, this one is a piece you don’t want to miss out on seeing.

The momentous occasion was celebrated with a special concert by the British Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, which was conducted by Thomas Roussel, and was beautifully complemented by Sawsan Al Bahaiti, the voice of Saudi Arabian Opera.
