The 2022 Academy Awards took place on Sunday with a greater sense of normalcy compared to the past few years’ ceremonies, calling for noteworthy red carpet style. And who better than designers from the Arab world to deliver just that on Hollywood’s biggest night?
Representing the region was Raya Abirached, who trusted the sartorial power of a sophisticated black gown for her attendance. The presenter’s dress for the evening was picked from fellow Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad‘s Pre-Fall 2022 collection, and featured a strapless corseted bodice that flowed into a pleated skirt made with gleaming silk mikado. Put together by celebrity stylist Cedric Haddad, Abirached’s outfit also came with dazzling jewelry from Bulgari, which she showed off by wearing her hair pulled back in a sleek ponytail.

Regional talent was also favored by international stars Venus Williams, Chrissy Teigen, and Mila Kunis. While professional tennis player Williams chose a custom white Elie Saab gown, Kunis went the couture route in a gown from Zuhair Murad’s Spring/Summer 2022 couture collection. The rose-colored silk dress featured a ruched one-shoulder bodice, built-in belt, and a long train attached to a fitted skirt.

Making an appearance at the Vanity Fair after-party with husband and singer John Legend, Teigen looked to one of her favorite Arab designers. The model wore a grey-colored number by Georges Hobeika. The one-shoulder dress was adorned with sparkling embellishment and came with an asymmetrical skirt that featured a short hem on one leg and a floor-grazing one on the other.

10 Of The Best Celebrity Looks By Lebanese Designer Georges Chakra

Georges Chakra certainly knows how to create a show-stopping look. This week one of the Lebanese designer‘s decadent creations was seen on American singer and television show host Nicole Scherzinger, who looked breathtaking in a suit from Chakra’s Spring 2019 couture collection.
Scherzinger was seen in the statement outfit while promoting her recent hit show The Masked Singer. The star wore the white suit, featuring a plunging blazer with bold metallic detailing across the shoulders and sleeves, finished with a flowing train.
Georges Chakra‘s daring and striking designs have seen him established as one of Lebanon’s best designers, adored by some of the entertainment industry’s top talents. He has become a firm favorite among many Hollywood stars, including Jennifer Lopez, Lily Collins, Chrissy Teigen, Kate Beckinsale, and Jameela Jamil with his gowns frequently featuring on red carpets across the world, as well as showcasing at Paris haute couture fashion week.
American model Chrissy Teigen was recently spotted donning a tulle tiered skirt from Chakra’s Fall 2020 couture collection, at a rally for president-elect Joe Biden and vice president-elect Kamala Harris’ election campaign, in Pennsylvania where her husband John Legend was performing.
Egyptian icon Yousra recently wore a stunning sequinned, ombrè gown from Chakra Spring/Summer 2020 collection, at the closing ceremony of the El Gouna Film Festival.
Due to the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic and the tragic Beirut explosion in August, George Chakra did not show his recent Fall 2021 couture collection at the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode.  Instead, the designer presented his collection in a digital format that still captured his signature flair, including lace, velour de soie, and silk organza, mixed with playful ruffles and voluminous styles.
Looking back at many of Charka’s designs, Vogue Arabia highlights his best celebrity looks in the gallery above.
