Carrie has never had a particularly bonne time in Paris, has she? In the final series of Sex and the City she wanders the French capital’s arrondissements alone, misses her own book party, and realizes she’s made a grave error in going Euro-hopping with busy Russian beau Aleksandr Petrovsky.
And in the final episode of And Just Like That’s first season, it’s Paris she travels to scatter Mr. Big’s ashes into the River Seine (from a Timmy Woods Eiffel Tower bag-turned-urn while wearing a tangerine Valentino gown, no less). After Aidan’s return and Carrie’s foray into flat shoes, no potential plot twist in And Just Like That season two could really surprise us, but Bradshaw’s return to her French-style tricks of old are admittedly intriguing.
Surely a beret would remind of her of Big in the same way a high blood pressure-inducing entrecôte steak would? Carrie was memorably sporting one the night she showed up at his apartment to see him off to Paris in season two and ended up flinging her McDonald’s in his face. Does she really want to revisit the style tropes associated with failed relationships and a dead husband?

But in new photos taken during filming on the upcoming series, Carrie is indeed channeling Parisian chic in the Big Apple, avec a woven beret by Gigi Burris and a nipped-in bourgeois cardigan, with a feminine floral dress, bow detail pumps and a raffia bag. Sarah Jessica Parker was filming a scene with John Corbett, who plays Aidan, and he had a suitcase in tow on set. Perhaps he’s back from a business trip sourcing furniture, or maybe he and old flame Carrie are taking a mini break to celebrate their on-again romance? Their jaunts upstate were never particularly successful… so if they are escaping Manhattan, let’s hope they’re avoiding both Suffern and Paris, beret or no beret.

Cast your mind back to 2008, when Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw almost walked down the aisle in her distinctive wedding dress in the first Sex And The City movie. But, of course, Big got cold feet and everything was ruined, resulting in a devastated Bradshaw running through the streets of NYC in said dress.
Fast forward to 2022, and the corseted gown from Vivienne Westwood’s fall/winter 2007 collection – made of the most luxurious ivory silk duchess satin and Radzimir taffeta – makes a comeback on the SATC spin-off, And Just Like That. While on set filming the new season, SJP was spotted in her character’s infamous dress. This time, though, she’s opted to accessorise with dramatic turquoise silk gloves that extend into an off-the-shoulder capelet, as well as pointed blue satin Manolo Blahnik heels.
For now, we can only speculate as to the meaning of Carrie bringing back the momentous dress, while the world patiently waits for the second season of And Just Like That. Is it a part of her ongoing recovery following the tragic loss of her beloved Big? Or does she just enjoy wearing it on a Thursday? Time will only tell.

Sex and The City’s Carrie Bradshaw (portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker) is no stranger to bold fashion statements. This is the fictional figure who wore men’s shirts as dresses and giant bird feathers on her head! In the reboot series, And Just Like That, Carrie’s closet has only gotten even more experimental—right down to the vintage Jean Paul Gaultier suits and her babushka-style headscarves. Now that the HBO show is currently filming its second season, Parker just shared a sneak peek at what we can expect from Carrie’s style once again—and it appears she’ll be rocking some of her boldest accessories yet.

Sharing a behind-the-scenes photo captioned “streets of NY,” Parker offered a waist-down photo of herself from set in character. While only her cropped cargo pants and accessories are in view, it’s enough to make any fashion lover giddy. Let’s start with the whimsical bag. We can’t wait to see Carrie lug around JW Anderson’s pigeon clutch, which retails for $870. The 3-D printed bag is fully functional, but is a cheeky way to honor New York’s most pesky denizens. Shoes-wise, she’s also seen sporting archival Dior heels that she wore in the first Sex and The City film—she’s the queen of re-wearing her iconic pieces—with knee-high socks. She even added a tiny Fendi anklet bag, a purse so small it could fit a tiny lipgloss and maybe a pack of gum.

Now, the kitschy shoes and bag are hardly everyday staples, but it wouldn’t be a Carrie outfit without a dash of impracticality. Isn’t that why you watch the show in the first place?

You can tell just how impactful an outfit is these days by the number of internet searches it gets. Years after the creation of Google Images—owing to Jennifer Lopez’s iconic Versace jungle print dress—fashion searches continue to stand testament to an outfit’s acclaim with Carrie Bradshaw‘s look in the And Just Like That… finale. The episode, which aired on February 3, sees Sarah Jessica Parker’s character dressed in a voluminous orange Valentino gown, picked from the house’s spring 2019 couture collection. Within the next 24 hours, searches for “Valentino dresses” increased by 1,085% while those for “long orange dress” increased by 194%, according to Love the Sales, a fashion e-commerce aggregator.

While this is not the only buzz-worthy fashion moment from the cult-favorite show, this dress in a rarely seen color—and the fact that it was worn for an important moment in the show—takes the cake. Mainly associated with summer and all things uplifting, the color is a guaranteed head-turner. In fact, the happy hue has made headlines quite a few times of late—namely when worn in the form of a short Carolina Herrrera dress by Zendaya, a Giambattista Valli one with a train by Bella Hadid, and a Benchellal blazer dress by Priyanka Chopra. And when paired with the right statement accessory (like Bradshaw’s fuchsia pink gloves), even the most low-key of orange dresses is bound to look remarkable.

Since And Just Like That hit the airwaves in December, fashion-lover Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) has been wearing outfits that are a mixture of the old and new. In some episodes she wears new pieces like a Carolina Herrera shirtdress; in others, she revives old classics that she first wore in her Sex and the City days, including her trusty blue Manolos and Fendi Baguette bags. In the latest episode, however, Carrie returned to one her best Sex and the City–era dresses of all time—you may recognize it from her disastrous trip to Paris in Season 6.
If you’re a diehard fan of the original show, you’ll remember that Carrie moves to Paris to be with her new artist lover, Aleksandr Petrovsky. (She ends up lonely, and Big comes to her rescue and returns her to her beloved New York). In the two-part series finale, she gets all glammed up for a night out with Petrovsky, wearing Atelier Versace’s Mille Feuille gown with an epic tulle skirt (it’s reportedly valued at $80,000). Only the boyfriend never shows up, and she ends up falling asleep in the glamorous creation in her bed.
In episode eight of And Just Like That, Carrie busts out the dazzling gown once again to show it to Seema Patel, her real-estate agent/friend. “Do you want to see something amazing? It is my pride and joy,” Carrie says. “I’ve only worn her twice. Once in Paris. And once here, just for fun. I sat at that window and ate a whole thing of Jiffy Pop.” While the gown seems to have never gotten her epic night-out, Carrie has clearly held onto her for sentimental value. Who can blame her? But she does say that eventually she’ll pass it down to Charlotte’s daughter Lily, who has been helping her with her clothing archiving. Lucky girl.

You know a bag has reached icon status when it hits the big screen. Just like the Fendi Baguette was immortalized in Sex and the City, this time around it’s the turn of Balenciaga’s Hourglass in And Just Like That… Carrie Bradshaw’s new It-bag has been a highlight in the show we all love to hate; the sculptural design a signal that the columnist known for her eclectic taste still keeps a finger on the fashion pulse – even if just one.
Carrie did not just buy any Hourglass bag. The Manolo addict selected one from Gucci’s “hacking” of Balenciaga, whereby Alessandro Michele borrowed tropes from his Kering stablemate Demna’s work, including Balenciaga’s striking hourglass tailoring and its matching handbag.
The Hourglass’s origins lie in house founder Cristóbal Balenciaga’s Basque waistcoats from the ’50s. The bold curvature of the sharply elegant Hourglass mirrors the lines of the garments firmly ingrained in the house’s DNA and which Demna continues to reimagine and pay forward in fresh ways.
Fashionistas other than Bradshaw are fans of the architectural bag, launched for fall 2019 and designed to sit on the hip, suspended from a removable cross-body strap, or carried by the small top handle. The three sizes and multitude of colorways and finishings ensure there’s a different Hourglass for brand fans, including Hailey Bieber, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Adut Akech, to carry without ever doubling up (these days, it’s all about adaptability in the leather goods market—the cash cow for fashion labels).

But no one loves the eye-catching arm candy as much as Balenciaga disciple Kim Kardashian, whose commitment to Demna’s vision frequently involves her wiggling into full-look stretch-satin to realize her street-style art. Kim’s glitter-encrusted Hourglass turned out to be the perfect accessory for her string of SNL looks, ranging from crushed velvet pink tailoring to plush leather trench coats thrown over her shiny, Spandexy catsuits.
Of course Balenciaga is well-versed in what it takes to make an It-bag. Its City and Motorcycle styles which were nestled in the arms of Kate Moss and Sienna Miller in the Noughties are enjoying something of a renaissance in line with the decade’s resurgence. Designed by then-creative director Nicolas Ghesquière at the turn of the century, the slouchy totes are like the rock‘n’roll sister of the Hourglass; all scuffed leather worn like a badge of honor, in contrast to its ultra-slick modern counterpart.

That’s not to say the Hourglass is lacking character. You only need to look at the nine lives that its bold B logo has already had on Kim and co to see that it brings a certain angular, directional quality to its wearer’s wardrobe. And just like that… an It-bag is born.

Carrie Bradshaw, Sex And The City
Whether you love it or hate it or have even yet to watch it, the new installment of Sex and the City is the most-talked-about thing on TV right now. And Just Like That features Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte in a new set of adventures in, where else, but the city that never sleeps.
The original Sex and the City was marked by its fair share of iconic outfits and fashion items, from tulle skirts to Mary-Janes, but perhaps there was none so iconic as Carrie’s necklace. As the story goes, the show’s stylist Patricia Field spotted cool kids at her downtown New York City store wearing scripted necklaces, and thought a custom one might work for Sarah Jessica Parker’s character on the show. It was rumored to cost under $100. And so, the Carrie necklace was born but unlike her Berger-era fascinator, it was an accessory choice questioned for good reason. Many were quick to point out that the Carrie necklace gave the script necklace a new connotation—the style became associated with an HBO show and its TV appearance muddied the cultural connections to Black, Latin, and Arabic communities. 2.0 Carrie wears a different, blingier necklace (new Carrie also seems to have a much bigger budget); meet the Marlo Laz Pave Spiked Heart Necklace, which makes an appearance in the And Just Like That trailer and in the first episode.

The style was released in 2017, designed by Marlo Laz founder Jesse Marlo Lazowski. It’s part of the Agape Collection, which is inspired by seven types of Greek love–from Philautia, which corresponds as self-love to Pragma, meaning committed love.
Hand-cast from 14-karat gold, a sunburst heart pendant surrounded by spiked diamonds hangs from a small but chunky chain. “The pavé diamonds represent strength, and the motif of rays of sunshine serves as a symbol for letting the light shine in, to remind us to always try to find the light in both good times and in bad,” explains Lazowski.

Since the necklace itself is made in New York City, and the store’s boutique is in the West Village, where Carrie’s OG townhouse still stands, it almost felt kismet that the necklace would make its way onto the show. When Lazowski and her team received the call from stylists Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago requesting the necklace, they were already extremely excited and hopeful. Lazowski found out the heart-shaped necklace debuted on Carrie when she was in Miami for Art Basel. Her phone was dead and when she turned it on, she had tons of messages from friends and family who had spotted the style on Carrie in the trailer.

The designer’s Squash Beads are also worn by Carrie in multiple scenes throughout And Just Like That. “I walk by Carrie’s brownstone almost every day on my walk from our store to pick up a coffee from Sant Ambroeus. Since we found out she was wearing the heart necklace in the show, it’s been a ‘pinch me’ moment every time I pass by,” adds Lazowski.

“Collectively, we’ve spent years watching, learning from, and feeling so deeply invested in Carrie’s experiences in many different types of love and relationships,” says Lazowski. “This necklace signifies all of these loves, but most importantly, self-love. It makes me think of one of my favorite Carrie Bradshaw lines, ‘The most exciting, challenging, and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous.’”
Given that the heart has emerged as one of the most popular motifs in jewelry and accessories right now (from Gucci’s Aria heart clutch to Balenciaga and Isabel Marant’s earrings, and more), it makes sense that a bold heart necklace is primed to be one of the most ubiquitous accessories of late. Even more important, though, is the messaging behind it: “More and more women have begun purchasing hearts for themselves, as an emblem of self-love and empowerment–very much in the spirit of Carrie Bradshaw,” adds Lazowski. “I love to see how women have changed the narrative, reclaiming a symbol that was often a gift given by a significant other, and using it to honor themselves.”

There’s been a lot of buzz around what the fashion will look like on new Sex & The City reboot, And Just Like That, which premieres on HBO soon. It’s no wonder why: Carrie Bradshaw—portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker—is one of television’s most notable fashion icons, thanks to her closet of impeccable designer dresses and Manolo Blahnik heels. Sure, we’ve already gotten several glimpses at what Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda are going to wear in 2021, but it’s still one of the year’s most anticipated shows for the outfits alone!

It’s only fitting, then, that for the series’s big premiere in New York City, Parker pulled out a major style moment herself. On the red carpet, the star chose to pay tribute to her well-dressed character by choosing to wear one of her and Carrie’s favorite designers, Oscar de la Renta. (Remember the Oscar wedding dress Carrie tried on in the Sex & the City movie? An unforgettable moment, if you ask us.)

Parker nodded to Carrie by choosing an Oscar evening dress that had a classic, uptown-worthy feel. The custom dress and cape was designed by Oscar’s Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, and featured a sweetheart neckline, beading throughout, and a full tulle skirt that’s meant for twirling (a clever nod to the opening credits of the original show, in which Carrie twirls around in a now-infamous ballerina skirt). Parker then accessorized the refined look—which was styled by Molly Rogers—with custom SJP Collection heels, titled the “Duchessa,” in a pretty rose satin. The look wouldn’t be complete without a stiletto—it is after all another Carrie signature.

For finishing touches, Parker carried a bag by Erdem and wore sparkling jewelry from Fred Leighton, Larkspur and Hawk, and vintage costume jewelry. Overall, it was the perfect modern take on what Carrie would wear to a big movie premiere today—something that mimics the fresh, current lens that And Just Like That’s costumers Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago have been infusing into the show. (So far, Carrie’s new looks have included the classics—like this viral Norma Kamali dress—and brand-new pieces, like a Gucci x Balenciaga bag that’s hot off the runway.) If the rest of the series’ fashion is as good as Parker’s look tonight, though, we may have just officially found our new favorite show.

Carrie Bradshaw’s definitely mixing up her wardrobe in Sex And The City reboot, And Just Like That – whether it’s her take on the lockdown wardrobe, or the new iteration of the famous “Carrie dress”. For her latest look, though, behind-the-scenes images have shown Sarah Jessica Parker’s character once again flying the flag for her beloved vintage.
Photographs show SJP wearing a ’70s blue floral maxi dress by Oscar De La Renta, which she teamed with skyscraper Celine pumps and a Paco Rabanne Pixel tote bag, for that added sparkle. It seems that Carrie, too, is a fan of vintage dealer Cherie Balch’s Shrimpton Couture (Balch also counts the likes of Rihanna and Tracee Ellis Ross as fans), as the same ODLR gown was recently on sale at the fashion-insider favorite.

It’s not the first time that Carrie has been spotted wearing vintage in the reboot, which is set to be released in December, with SJP also seen wearing a vintage Claude Montana jumpsuit, teamed with a Dries Van Noten jacket, during filming. We know from the original series that Carrie is also a fan of a vintage Gucci handbag, which she teamed with the original “Carrie dress”.
With vintage enjoying somewhat of a revival of late, can we expect to see more vintage finds in Carrie’s And Just Like That wardrobe? Let’s hope so.
