Gemini season is officially here, starting on May 21 and running on till June 21. As we step into the month of The Twins, Vogue Arabia takes you through the basics about the zodiac sign, and how you can make them feel special on their big day.

Gemini personality traits
Often depicted by a set of twins, Gemini is easily one of the spunkiest—and often most misunderstood—signs of the zodiac. As their official symbol suggests, Gemini individuals tend to have dual personalities. People born under the third sign of the zodiac bring polarizing traits together. They’re outgoing but love their personal space, they’re impulsive but can make good planners, and are extremely affectionate—until they drop a truth bomb on you that stings more than they’d thought it would. Nevertheless, there’s never a dull moment with Mercury babies, who make excellent party hosts, and have a knack for communication that few other signs can compete with. Bonus: Geminis are also exceptionally easy-going (after all, this is an air sign we’re talking about), and their adventurous streak can put a Sagittarius to shame. What’s not to love?
Famous Gemini celebrities
Given their outspoken nature, it comes as no surprise that some of the most talked-about celebrities in the world are Gemini—hi, Angelina Jolie and Kanye West! Others to be born under the air sign are designer Salvatore Ferragamo, musical legend Prince, Hollywood favorites Morgan Freeman, Natalie Portman, Johnny Depp and Nicole Kidman, Spider-Man Tom Holland, Captain America Chris Evans, supermodels Naomi Campbell, Adriana Lima and Heidi Klum, musicians Iggy Azalea and Kendrick Lamar, twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, author Salman Rushdie, and tennis pro Venus Williams.
The best birthday gifts for Gemini individuals
Let’s face it: shopping for Geminis is no easy feat. But where there’s a will, there’s a way. Why not celebrate your favorite twin this moment with a sartorial picks that honor their versatility? A neon Balenciaga bag is bound to earn you brownie points, as are Fendi’s topsy-turvy metallic flats abd Saint Laurent’s half-black, half-white jacket, a nod to the sign’s inherent dual nature. As the temperature continues to climb, your Gemini sister is bound to love a summer dress like Zimmermann’s floral number, with Fry Power’s rainbow ring set to match.
Always happy to try something new, Geminis are a great sign to give not-so-basic gifts to. In the mood to experiment? Try boxing up a multicolored poker set, or indulge this sign’s inner party maniac with Pro-Ject’s sleek turntable. For times when they want to wind down, nothing will come in as handy as a Kindle.
And that’s not where the list ends. While Jo Malone’s dual perfume set promises to be a hit in every indecisive Gemini’s vanity pouch, Huda Beauty’s Mercury Retrograde works as a cheeky nod to the ongoing planetary positioning (and its bold color palette does justice to this zodiac sign’s colorful persona). Angelina Jolie Shares a Heartbreaking Letter Sent to Her by a Young Woman in Afghanistan

For years now, Angelina Jolie has been known for her passion for human rights activism, especially regarding women’s rights. In light of the recent occupation of Afghanistan under the Taliban, the actor has taken it upon herself to create awareness for women who have been stripped of their basic rights of living.
Yesterday, Jolie shared the street art and fashion work of two Afghan women on her Instagram, stating, “In honor of #Afghanwomen and their struggle for equality and dignity and freedom, I’m sharing, with their permission, the work of two amazing female Afghan artists whose work I love, Shamsia Hassani and Rada Akbar.” The Instagram post featured eight slides—four dedicated to street art by Shamsia Hassani, and four highlighting tailored dresses by Rada Akbar. The works seem to speak volumes about the Afghan woman’s struggle with the symbolism of imprisonment and lack of freedom.

Acting as a voice for Afghan women, Angelina Jolie also shared a post on Instagram that featured excerpts from a letter that was sent to her by a woman who is currently in the midst of the storm, unable to speak up, protest, or step outside. “A young woman in #Afghanistan sent me this letter. I’m protecting her identity, but she hasn’t been able to go back to school since the Taliban seized power,” Jolie wrote in the caption of the post.
“I feel like women don’t have any right to speak or put their word forward,” the heart-wrenching note read. “The rights of the woman are taken away from them and they are not allowed to do anything in the country. Few weeks back when the Taliban arrested 2 of the women who raised their voices in order to ask for the rights of woman and freedom, I just thought, that this is the end and I might never be able to go outside again or even be able to speak as I am a Girl.”

Angelina Jolie’s post has already received thousands of likes and shares, proving the importance of using one’s platform to spotlight global issues. One of the most common responses the star’s posts have received is of gratitude, with fans thanking her for using her voice to help others.

On the Eternals Press Tour, Red Carpet Fashion is Out of This World

On the Eternals Press Tour, Red Carpet Fashion is Out of This World

Angelina Jolie in Versace is a formula tried and true, but one that manages to appear fresh every time it makes an appearance on the red carpet. Such was the case earlier this week as the press tour for Marvel’s upcoming flick, Eternals, kicked off in sublime fashion, premiering at the 16th edition of the Rome Film Festival, and marking Jolie’s debut in the star-studded, super-powered cinematic universe. Walking the red carpet in a strapless gown crafted from Versace’s signature silver oroton, Jolie looked every inch the goddess-like character, Thena, she portrays in the film.
But it wasn’t just Jolie whose red carpet outfit that took Instagram by storm—the Eternals premiere, and indeed, the entirety of the film’s press tour, has seen British co-star Gemma Chan firmly cement her position as a sartorial name to watch. Though she is no stranger to style, first becoming a household name as the perennially chic Astrid Leong in Crazy Rich Asians, before appearing on the cover of British Vogue’s September issue this year, Chan’s looks have, well, been out of this world—if we do say so ourselves. It was emerging South Korean-born, London-based (and Central Saint Martins-educated) couturier Sohee Park that Chan chose for Rome’s crimson runway, wearing a custom velvet two-piece and headpiece featuring the designer’s signature Swarovski embellishments. At a following conference, Chan wore a white Valentino mini dress from the maison’s spring/summer ’22 runway, replete with a sheer cape and matching heels.
Earlier in the tour, Chan also chose a rosy Magda Butrym mini dress—though an angelic Louis Vuitton gown, worn to the film’s Los Angeles premiere, was a particular standout. With her feather-like cape and tiers of lace, Chan looked ready to take flight. For the London premiere of the film, Chan championed the region in a fully-embellished hooded crop top and skirt ensemble from Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad’s FW21 couture collection.
Other stars of the film, including Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao, Salma Hayek, and Kumail Nanjiani have also impressed on the red carpet circuit. A purple and gold sherwani on Nanjiani’s part, designed by Pakistani creative  Umar Sayeed, was another highlight.

“Enjoying your vintage pieces, if you have them, and rediscovering some vintage shops seems like part of the way forward.” So said Angelina Jolie of a more conscious approach to fashion, in her cover interview for British Vogue’s March 2021 issue. She actioned this attitude at the premiere for Eternals, where she revealed that her children Zahara, Knox, Vivienne, Shiloh and Maddox – who joined her on the red carpet – had rummaged through her wardrobe to find their respective looks for the evening.
“My kids are all mixed with vintage, and in my old Oscars dress. We did all vintage and upcycled my old stuff,” she mused. Zahara wore the most recognizable outfit: a dazzling Elie Saab couture gown that Jolie wore to the Oscars in 2014. Knox and Maddox sported suiting for the event, Vivienne wore a whimsical dress, and 15-year-old Shiloh wowed in a beige dress – not dissimilar to one Angelina wore to the Emmys back in 1998.

Angelina herself arrived at the highly-anticipated premiere wearing a draped khaki strapless look from Balmain’s Resort 2022 collection. Stylist Jason Bolden selected vintage Tiffany & Co. jewels for the actor, and commissioned a unique lip cuff.
Ahead of her Vogue shoot, she divulged to British Vogue’s editor-in-chief and European director Edward Enninful that she “invests in quality pieces”, and then “wears them to death”. “I don’t change things often, you know? That’s one of my things,” she said. Testament to this, an array of cherished staples from her own wardrobe featured in her Craig McDean cover shoot.
We hope that her ’90s looks are unearthed soon – that beaded Randolph Duke gown she wore to the Golden Globes in 1999 is a sure-fire winner.

Inside the Harithand Fall 2021 Collection Everyone Wants to Wear

Lebanese designer behind Harithand, Harith Hashim expresses that for Fall 2021, he wanted to create something easy-to-wear in keeping with the brand’s fluid identity, but even more light with a sense of liberty and romance. Suiting and dresses take on elongated shapes, there is no nostalgia here, rather hope grounded in earthy hues. Hashim, who recently dressed actor Angelina Jolie, reflects on lessons and inspirations from Beirut and the new strides the brand is taking.

Like everyone in Beirut, you experienced deep trauma from the blast. Were you able to rest and take some time for yourself this summer?
It was a very hard year for all of us, losing my house, the office, many garments—everything. To top it off, the economic crisis and the revolution, all together, it felt like a never-ending nightmare. We didn’t have the option to rest. We launched our online website, we had to fulfill clients’ orders on time. This was a way to escape reality and focus on work. Being a creative director in Lebanon, at these times, is definitely hard work. We have to keep the same exact level and standards. The situation is not ideal, but I always remain optimistic, and I believe the beautiful days of Beirut are coming back.
With the collection preparations and between photoshoots, I haven’t really gotten much time for myself. Even with all this, I feel that I finally get to express myself in my designs with complete freedom, without the fear of ”not being suitable” for the market. Today, my designs really reflect how I see the world and how I envision the everyday woman.

What changes have you made to your production following August?
We recently moved into a new atelier, a beautiful traditional Lebanese space in Gemmayze, where we produced most of the collection. The good news, which I am very excited about, is that we are producing some specic garments in Milan, working with the best local craftsmanship. For the first time in our brand history, we have begun creating denim pants and belts sourced from premium leather and made in Italy. It’s definitely an exciting venture for us.

What inspires you today?
I am inspired by people’s drive to live and enjoy life again, this passion is giving me inspiration to design and work for a better tomorrow. To me, Beirut creates diamonds—the amount of pressure around you drives you to succeed. I find it as my way of escaping reality and this collection to me means a lot as it reflects the romance and beauty that Beirut needs to return to. The chaos and beauty of this country drives my inspiration!
