After presenting its remarkable collections around the world, Dolce & Gabbana is bringing its designs closer to home: AlUla, Saudi Arabia, to be specific. The heritage city will play host to the Italian fashion house’s first show in the Kingdom which presents the Alta Moda, Alta Sartoria, and Alta Gioielleria collections on January 27. What’s more, Dolce & Gabbana will also exhibit the collection in Maraya, known as the world’s largest mirrored building. Here, visitors will be offered the rare opportunity to meet the Dolce & Gabbana premiere and master tailors for a private fitting and take home their bespoke off-the-runway pieces, all while exploring the exclusive space from January 28-31.

As part of the AlUla Moments season, the awe-inspiring structures of the site will come alive further with the vibrant creations of designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana displayed in the one-of-a-kind presentation. The fashion show is taking place alongside the Ikmah Fashion Cavalry Show at the iconic location of Jabal Ikmah, described by many as a huge open-air library due to its historical inscriptions. As the show’s name suggests, guests can not only expect male and female models, but also 12 Arabian horses dressed in custom accessories in a celebration of their spirit and beauty.

The Ikmah Fashion Cavalry Show is one of the most exciting events taking place during Winter at Tantora, the first festival in the Kingdom to highlight its heritage and talent for both local and international visitors. Running until February 12, Winter at Tantora is made of the AlUla Arts, AlUla Skies, and AlUla Wellness festivals.

Like so many brands navigating the restrictions of 2020 and implausibility of ‘putting on a show,’ Dolce & Gabbana have ventured into new territory to showcase their latest Alta Moda (couture) and Alta Gioielleria (high jewelry) collections. No exotic backdrop or far-flung destination this time but rather a three-day celebration via a series of digital events and short films, collectively titled A Family Affair.

Motivated by the pull so many designers must feel between looking back and to the future, juggling creative freedom and classic design and finding cultural relevance while ensuring a commitment to craftsmanship, Dolce & Gabbana have tackled it all with this latest couture collection, showcased via a short film featuring a generational diverse troupe of femme fatale characters.

Set in an ornate villa in Milan, the cast mingles in its various salons dressed in updated classics (the black dress), artistically embroidered and embellished evening wear and standout tailoring – all accessorized in statement jewels and styled with signature Sicilian flair. Inspired by Italian hospitality and the idea of a big family gathering together after a long time apart, different generations – sons, daughters, grandchildren, grandmothers – enjoy each other’s company, singing and dancing while decked out in Dolce & Gabbana’s finest.

For the label’s luxe Alta Gioielleria collection, unadulterated Italian Renaissance elegance was the order of the day with impeccable multi-color gemstones, Rubellite tourmalines, exceptional brown diamonds and South Sea pearls decorating swirling necklaces, floral motif rings and statement tiaras in true maximalist style, all showcased against a backdrop of a stunning Santa Maria Novella building.
