If you’re still lugging around a clunky, corded traditional vacuum cleaner from room to room, stop right there. The best robot vacuums do all that gross, grimy work for you so that you can spend your time in other, more important ways. By now, you’ve likely contemplated buying one or know someone who has and raves about it. If you’re ready to take the plunge, let us help. What does a robot vacuum cleaner do?At the basest level, robot vacuum cleaners are circular appliances that roam your home and employ powerful suction to pull dust, dirt, dander, and pet hair into a built-in dustbin which you later empty, or if it’s a certain model it automatically self-empties. If it’s a self-empty robot vacuum cleaner you usually only have to dump the bin every month or so saving you more time. These vacuums have sensors that map out floor plans, no-go zones, and obstacle avoidance (so they don’t keep banging into your furniture). When finished cleaning, the vacuums return to their charging docks to recharge (or, in some cases, recharge and resume cleaning where they left off). From there, robot vacuums increase in their fancy features. There are all sorts of models and brands that address your home size, flooring, and needs. Many have lengthy battery lives, strong filters for better air quality at home, and are designed to navigate hardwood, high-pile carpeting, and tile. The high-end robot vacuums mop if you need them to, can be given multiple cleaning schedules, spot-clean, self-empty, sync up to apps via Wi-Fi, and respond to Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands. Wild, right? Plus, with spring allergies here, a robovac can help keep the inside of your home pollen-free.Of course, with all trendy appliances, there are so, so many models on the market to consider. To simplify shopping, below, we’ve researched and assembled top picks for the best robot vacuums. These best-sellers come from big-name brands like iRobot, Eufy, Shark, Deebot, and more and can be found at retailers such as Amazon, Target, and Best Buy. Ahead of Memorial Day weekend, you can expect to grab one of these robot vacuums for a great price so be sure to check out our Memorial Day sales page for markdowns.

If you’re someone who lusts over the sensation of licking and sucking, here’s great news: Oral sex toys deliver the delicious stimulation of someone going down on you—with or without an actual partner present. Whether you want a sex toy that adds that flicking feeling to your solo play, or you’re looking to add new stimulation to your partner play, there’s a wide world of oral sex toys to choose from. We’ll explore the biggest questions when it comes to shopping for oral sex toys, the different types that you’ll find, and share the best oral sex toys recommended by sex experts. What are oral sex toys?“An oral sex toy is either a toy that stimulates the feeling of oral sex or that can be used as an accessory with oral sex,” says Jenn Mason, the owner of WinkWink Boutique. “These are sometimes the same toy, and sometimes they’re different.” What are different types of oral sex toys? There are a few types of oral sex toys, starting with clitoral suction vibrators (also known as air pulse vibrators and airwaves vibrators). These toys use suction and air to surround the clitoris and indirectly stimulate it. “This is a unique feeling that’s similar to oral sex and has had really excellent orgasmic results,” says Gigi Engle, ACS, resident sex educator at 3Fun and author of All the F*cking Mistakes: A Guide to Sex, Love, and Life, who nods to vibrators models made by Satisfyer and Womanizer.Another type of oral sex toy is clitoral stimulators (such as the Skyn Caress or the Fun Factory Volta), which include tongue vibrators. These stimulators have silicone “tongues,” “lips,” or “petals” that flutter across the clit. Engle says these petals provide “more direct stimulation to the clitoris, but it’s still very interesting and feels different from a standard vibrator.”For people with penises, male masturbators such as masturbation sleeves (also known as “strokers,” or—if they vibrate—“power strokers”) simulate the feeling of a blow job, and some anal vibrators and butt plugs produce a sensation similar to rimming (which is anal-oral sex). What are the benefits of using an oral sex toy?“While the benefits of using an oral sex toy alone may be obvious because you don’t have a partner to do it for you, using it with a partner can enhance and prolong stimulation alongside what your partner is doing,” says Mason. “Our bodies have limitations on how long they can provide oral sex (and even on the kinds of sensations we can offer).”Oral sex toys provide a completely different type of stimulation from other sex toys that can feel really nice on nerve endings. They can also be quite visually stimulating, says Engle, especially if one partner is watching the other utilize the toy on themselves. Additionally, the suction vibrators can be used on nipples and the heads of penises, making it quite the multifunctional tool. What should you factor in when shopping for oral sex toys?First, look at the kind of power the oral sex toy offers, advises Mason: Is it a light sensation or a stronger one? How big is the range of intensities? Does it offer vibration patterns? Is it a waterproof sex toy?“You really want to take into account the size and shape of it, especially if you’re planning on using it with another person,” says Mason. “Bulkier toys can be harder to use with a partner than thinner toys that can more easily fit between bodies.”Factor in the materials of the toy as well. “When it comes to sex toys, quality really does make a big difference,” says Engle. “Always buy toys made from medical-grade or body-safe silicone that are USB-rechargeable and don’t contain chemicals. Avoid toys made from jelly.”And if you’re in a long-distance relationship or playing with a partner who travels a lot, consider choosing a remote-controlled sex toy. “Your partner can control your vibe or vibrating sleeve even if they’re not around,” says Mason. What are the best oral sex toys?Below, we’ve broken down by type the top recommendations from sex experts and sex educators for their favorite oral sex toys from best-selling brands and retailers such as Lovehoney, Womanizer, Lelo, Dame Products, Fun Factory, We-Vibe, Amazon, and more.
Whether you realize it or not, there are many situations in which knowing how to convert household items into homemade sex toys is a real plus. Maybe you’re away from home and realize you’re without your favorite sex toy; maybe things have gotten heated and you don’t have time to hunt for a vibrator; maybe you’re looking to try a new kink without investing much money. Or maybe you just want to surprise your partner (or yourself).Whatever the reason, certified sexologist and author of Urban Tantra: Sacred Sex for the Twenty-First Century Barbara Carrellas says a DIY sex toy (which she calls a “pervertible”) is never far: “Pervertibles are every day, non-erotic items that can be easily converted into sex toys. They can be found absolutely everywhere, and once you start finding them, it’s hard to stop seeing the erotic potential in all sorts of everyday items.”We spoke to a variety of sex educators and experts about their top picks for unassuming everyday objects you can bring into your sex life and masturbation. While there’s no true replacement for a body-safe sex toy, Rae Chen, sex and beauty editor of TheNotice.net, tells SELF: “There are a lot of household items that can double as sex toys for the brave (or very, very horny). Ideally, I recommend using only new, clean items.”From spatulas to throw pillows, Carrellas says once you start looking for pervertibles, “you can expand your erotic imagination and increase your pleasure possibilities.” (And save money, too.) Below, we’ve rounded up a few of the best homemade sex toys, as well as expert recommendations for how to safely enjoy them. All products featured on SELF are independently selected by our editors. If you’re a cat owner (or know one) and are unfamiliar with the concept of a cat backpack, here’s what’s up: The best cat backpacks give your feline friend a chance to experience the world from the safety of their own little mobile home. If you worry that your indoor-only cat isn’t getting enough fresh air, but don’t want to lug them around in a carrier, a cat backpack is the answer. Whether or not you’ve managed to leash-train your kitty, these pet carriers are an easy, safe way to tote your fur babies around—without pulling a back muscle.I’m a cat parent myself, and I’ll never forget the first time I saw a cat pass me on a Brooklyn street, its tiny, furry face poking through the fishbowl bubble of its owner’s backpack. I LOL’d at first because—come on—a cat in a backpack? What is this, a Dr. Seuss book? But last year, I bought my own and find it surprisingly useful. The backpack makes an excellent, hands-free pet carrier for travel and trips to the vet, especially since I have two cats (one goes in a handheld carrier; the other I put in my pack). As the weather warms, I’ve noticed more and more cat carrier backpacks on the street (dog backpacks, too). Now that they’ve caught on, there’s a whole market for cat backpacks out there. Some feature the trending astronaut bubble window (such as the Lollimeow Pet Carrier Backpack, which any cat lover has doubtless seen on Instagram), while others are covered in sizable, strong breathable mesh panels made of anti-scratch material. All of these backpacks have ample air holes for ventilation, and one backpack even has a built-in fan (seriously). Many contain expandable mesh tunnels so your kitty has a roomy area to relax, and most are foldable, airline-approved, and equipped with comfy padded shoulder straps and chest straps. Safety straps and tethers ensure that your cat doesn’t get loose, and side pockets keep water bottles, pet gear storage, and attachable water bowls close.Below, we’ve rounded up some of the best cat backpacks (which can work for small dogs, too) from retailers like Amazon, Target, Maxbone, and Chewy featuring popular brands like PetAmi, Texsens, Pecute, and more. You’ll find the top picks for both small cats and large cats, including durable, oxford-cloth options for long walks and hikes, rolling backpacks for air travel, backpacks that act as car seats, and—of course—ridiculously photogenic cat backpacks, too. Just be sure to compare your cat’s weight and height with the bag’s measurements before you buy.

Let’s start with its weight. At just a little over five pounds (compared to my Shark, which was in the neighborhood of 14 pounds), the Dyson V8 is a breeze to zip around my apartment—a five-pound breeze. This really makes a difference when it comes to motivating myself to deal with any sort of mess because I know I won’t break a sweat using it. Plus, the design of the vacuum is incredibly nimble and easy to twist into corners or lie practically flat to slip under my couches and tables. The same can be said about the vacuum’s cordlessness. I could cry thinking about how wonderful it is that I no longer have to move a cord from outlet to outlet, sometimes tripping over it, and always having to wrap it and unwrap it until I’m dizzy. Screw you, cord! Never again! And despite its cordless status, my Dyson V8 holds its charge for the amount of time I need it to—for around 40 minutes. This is plenty of time for me to do a routine cleaning of my one-bedroom apartment, which is a little under 700 square feet. For the times when I need stronger suckage, the Dyson V8 Animal has a “max suction” feature which provides up to six minutes of intense suction. I rarely need to use this (especially since it’s a battery-drainer), but it’s come in handy for the times when I encounter a patch of my cats’ fur that’s so thick I start to worry for their health. Speaking of cat fur: I also adore that my stick vacuum is also a hand vacuum. Of the included attachments, I find myself most often using the thin crevice tool (in between couch cushions, in the cracks near my cats’ litter box, etc.), which I store in the dock along with the combination tool (which has a wide nozzle and brush). Additionally, I have a mini motorized tool, which attacks pet hair and dirt with extra force (and a little battery usage), as well as a mini dusting brush. Lastly, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the impact the Dyson has on my air. Its barrel cleverly houses a HEPA filter that sucks up allergens and produces clean air in its wake (and is certified by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America). My lungs greatly appreciate it.The downsides of the Dyson V8 AnimalWhile the Dyson V8 Animal is excellent for my New York apartment, I suspect it’s not the ideal choice for anyone who owns a multiple-bedroom house. That said, there are all sorts of other (cordless) Dyson models—the bigger barrels run for up to 60 to 120 minutes on a single charge, come with tons of tools and accessories for your different floor types and needs, and even have sensors that measure dust particles in the air. They’ll cost you, though, but maybe it’s worth it.I do wish I had space to store all of Dyson’s tools (not just two in addition to the one attached to the head). Since I don’t have the space, the tools not in use are often in a drawer and forgotten. I also wish each tool was labeled in a way that advises what it’s best used for, as I often find myself googling “what is Dyson combination tool for?” to figure out if it’s the one I need for the job. Should you buy it?If you’re someone who lives in a relatively small space and appreciates the ease of having a vacuum you can grab for a quick touch-up of your floors, the Dyson V8 Animal is for you. Because of how easy and hassle-free it is to use, I find myself vacuuming almost every day now, in little bits. If there are crumbs on the floor, I don’t groan or leave them there because I don’t want to deal with pulling out my monster vacuum. Instead, I whip my Dyson off the wall, do a quick run-over, and am continuously impressed and disgusted by just how much hair and tumbleweeds of dust get trapped in the canister. Dumping it all into the trash with a quick pull is oh so satisfying.
There’s a saying that the best gifts come in small packages, and I wholeheartedly agree. In fact, it’s the smallest gifts—the teeny, tiniest, miniature gifts—that truly make my heart squeeze with delight. As a kid, I collected miniature things—miniature cookware, clocks, games, and nesting dolls that finally opened to reveal a doll smaller than a grain of rice. Later, I studied Japanese, and in my travels there, was struck by its kawaii culture—an appreciation of adorably small things, from itty bitty trash cans to tiny snack-shaped erasers. Turns out, we’re perhaps all hardwired to gravitate towards tiny things; we want to protect them, are impressed by the craftsmanship of things that are incredibly small, and have a desire to play with them. And somewhere in the last decade, there’s been a surge in the communities surrounding miniature artistry, owing perhaps in large part to Instagram (@TheTinyChefShow, @DailyMini, @Tanaka_Tatuya, to name a few) and TikTok (#tinythings). There are all sorts of small gifts and gadgets on the market, many of which have a nostalgic spin. You’ll find magical minis like the world’s smallest vacuum cleaners (that really work!), palm-sized record players, arcade games, and even tiny keychain terrariums that house live plants. These thimble-sized toys make unique stocking stuffers for the holiday season, birthday gifts, and just-for-fun gifts for any friend, family member, coworker, or for your own personal collection. Plus, its small size almost always means its price is small, too. Below, find the best miniature gifts and other gift ideas from retailers and brands like Urban Outfitters, World’s Smallest Toys, Etsy, Amazon, and Uncommon Goods. Good luck not buying them all!
